A year-round adults-only site in the shade of distinctive Colmers Hill, Ernie’s Plot is easily reached from the A35. Not that you would know that a major road passes anywhere near: the site is surrounded by Dorset’s splendidly rural landscape, with hedgerows and leafy trees, inquisitive sheep in the nearby field and the occasional cameo by the local wildlife, mainly foxes and deer. Sitting halfway between Bridport and Chideock (five minutes’ drive to either), the site is also a five-minute drive from the spectacular Jurassic Coast, fringed by the South West Coast Path (cue epic walks with your four-legged companion) and dotted with pretty beaches – from pebbly Eype (which also happens to be dog-friendly), to Seatown, where you might bump into a fossil hunter or two. The touring pitches here are the Cadillacs of touring pitches: hardstanding, double-width and with water supply. Electric hook-up is coin-operated, so be sure to raid the piggy bank before your holiday, and come armed with plenty of £1 & £2 coins. And 50-pence coins, too – they will come in handy for the hot shower in the impeccably maintained toilet block. How’s this for luxury? One of the two cubicles comes with underfloor heating – bliss. Another elegant touch is the daily newspaper delivery (on request). Check out the information shed/shop, where you can get the timetable for the bus and brochures on nearby attractions, as well as essential items such as free-range eggs from the resident chooks, cheese and milk, and local meats.

喜欢 Beautiful surroundings and generous pitch size. Very clean and well maintained. A lovely warm welcome from the host and added cuddles with dogs and sheep! A perfect location to visit our favourite places nearby. Nice walks and a lovely pub close by. The road noise didn’t bother us at all as we were out all day and it quietened down in the evening. Nice people camping too appreciating the quiet adult site. The little information hut was very handy for bits and bobs.

喜欢 Our 4th (I think) visit over the years. Love that it’s small, with superb views, wonderful walks, generous sized serviced pitches, and only a 25 minute walk to Bridport.

不喜欢 A35 traffic noise, but soon stopped noticing it - won’t put us off returning!

喜欢 A very nice site with view of Colmers Hill and not too far to walk to Bridport. Nicely located for West Bay and Lyme Regis. Facilities were very clean and site was well maintained and Nic was very friendly. Pitches were spaced well.

不喜欢 Some road noise , but it didn’t really bother us as we were out every day and was obviously quieter in the evening

喜欢 The view from the site and the size of the pitch.
The welcome cake and tea was a nice touch

不喜欢 Road noise was none stop. The hands off approach is a bit strange, drive in stop offs where just aload in with little instruction, tents that where there for one night pitched up on an area that was meant to be designated for one of the pitches. An adult only site that had a last minute drive in that had a child and if the owners where on site this maybe would not have happened.
Unfurtunately not idealy situated as it is close to the A35 we understand that road noise is not the owners fault this should be highlighted more on the sites web pages. No security for accessing the site either.

喜欢 Great little site, great location and excellent facilities.
Good value for money. Over the 3 nights our electric use was only £5.
Walking to the coast at Eype is only a short distance and by a great footpath. Easy to get on the coastal path. The sheep in the field opposite are very entertaining. Some road noise but not too bad.

喜欢 Spent 2 nights at this lovely camp site. Large pitch. Amazing views 😊spotlessly clean toilets and showers. Information hut which had eggs ect to buy. There was a bag with my name on it which had lovely homemade cake and cream. That was so welcoming. The owner came around to see if we were happy ❤️will definitely be booking again ❤️

In Lyme Regis (20 minutes’ drive), be sure to find the Mary Anning Rocks statue, honouring the town’s most renowned fossil hunter (and her dog Tray), then walk along the beach all the way to the stone jetty known as The Cobb, from where you can admire a cracking sunset. Maumbury Rings Roman Amphitheatre, in Dorchester (half an hour), started life as a Neolithic henge, before morphing into an amphitheatre in Roman times and an artillery fort in the 17th century. On the outskirts of town, Maiden Castle is an elaborate Iron Age hill fort, while bookworms might be drawn to National Trust - Hardy’s Cottage, where the author wrote some of his early works. Chesil Beach (35 minutes) is an 18-mile long expanse of shingle sheltering the Fleet Lagoon, an area of salt marshes that’s home to an assortment of migrant birds. At its north-western end is the Abbotsbury Swannery, with daily feedings of the swan colony and a swan-shaped maze.
