A mini-break at Carthvean Yule Tree Farm will see you wild camping in the centre of rural Cornwall, near Helston. The site couldn’t be better located for kids if it tried, with Flambards Theme Park, the beach and a heritage railway all within 25 minutes’ drive. Facilities on site are pretty comprehensive for a back-to-basics spot – there are loos, running water is on hand and ice pack freezing is also available. You can charge up devices (that’ll keep everyone smiling), and if the kids arrive tired after a long journey, you can park up by your pitch and hey presto – your tent is ready and waiting. You can wake up to fantastic sunrises, spend the day out and about on foot, in the car or on two wheels, and then cosy up around the campfire to watch a spectacular sunset – and after dark on a clear night, be sure to catch the Milky Way gleaming overhead. If you’re doing a long-distance hike following the South West Coast Path – or indeed travelling without a car – the owners can arrange pick-ups from public transport. Meanwhile, if you are driving it's worth bearing in mind that this is a proper rural Cornish farm with access via a council-maintained bridletrack, which is often classed as an unmade road.
