A secluded, simple site in the middle of the South Downs National Park? Splendid. Those who look for space and fine views while on a rural break should consider a stay at Clarefield Copse Wild Camping, in a quiet corner of Hampshire 15 minutes’ drive from Petersfield. As you might expect from a spot inside a national park, the views from here are pretty fab – as is the amount of space around the place from which to admire them. The owners have kept things low key so as not to interfere with their natural surrounds, simply installing a shower and toilets (regularly cleaned) and a drinking water supply, leaving plenty of open space to play games, light a barbie and construct a campfire. Bike rides and walks are top activities around these parts – start by taking a wander by the lake next to the site or on local footpaths, or, just maybe, strolling to the nearest pub in half an hour or so. Many a mile of trail runs through the national park, and there’s much more strolling to be done in nearby National Trust properties or on day trips to Chichester and Portsmouth (both half an hour away by car).

喜欢 Absolutely amazing campsite if you’re looking for peace and a wild, natural setting. The pitches are well spaced giving you plenty of privacy and there are lots of beautiful nature walks in the surrounding area. The facilities were clean and had everything we needed – toilets, a hot shower, and washing-up areas.
Each pitch comes with an old wheel as a fire pit, and kindling is available to buy on-site – a lovely touch for nature lovers. At night, we could hear owls calling, and the sunrise in the morning was truly magical.
Would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking to reconnect with nature in a quiet, rustic setting.

喜欢 Very nice quiet area, the sites are nice and flat and spaced well apart, and the facilities are everything you need, including firewood to purchase for the fire pits

不喜欢 It was hot so I had a nice cold shower which I liked, but my partner said he had trouble getting the shower to stay warm so maybe don’t expect very hot water. Not so much a dislike as just a note

喜欢 This is the second time I’ve stayed here and I love how spaced out and quiet the pitches are. For a wild campsite, it is great and yet get a lot. There is one corrugated metal shower hooked up to the water supply with an LPG water heater, three toilets and washing up sinks. You also get a fire pit by your pitch.

喜欢 Nice clean and quiet campsite. Toilets etc all good. Logs available to buy for your fire and fire pits on each tent pitch. Second time coming and will defo come again. Kids loved the swing in the field.

喜欢 This was an amazingly beautiful site, with lovely open spaces for the kids to play and all pitches were well spaced out so they didn’t annoy anyone. Great idea to have an old tractor wheel for fires which we made use of.

喜欢 Wide open space with a few fields to choose from to pitch. Lots of fire pits dotted around but you can pitch anywhere. Very laid back feel. Perfect ground for tent pegs - no stones. The facilities are basic so check the photo's - you will know if this is your kind of site.

不喜欢 The grass was long when we stayed - a few paths mown in would have been good e.g. from the camping field to the toilet block.

Folk who’ve invested in a National Trust membership can surely get their money’s worth out of this area: aim for 18th-century Uppark House (10 minutes’ drive), wander around Woolbeding Gardens (10 minutes) and admire the art collection at Petworth House (half an hour) – tipped to be one of the finest in the NT’s possession. (Or try Hinton Ampner, Slindon Estate, Winkworth Arboretum…) There’s a whole load more history to see down by the coast, too. If it’s maritime times gone by that interest you, head to Portsmouth to potter around the historic dockyard and mosey around the Mary Rose Museum (or, for something more modern, sail up the Emirates Spinnaker Tower to see the sea from 170 metres up). Weald & Downland Living Museum (20 minutes) is a fab place for a glimpse into real life from days of yore. If you’re simply planning to fill your break with lots of rural rambles, perhaps it’s a wise idea to lay in supplies for a restorative drink upon your return? Langham Brewery (20 minutes) is worth a visit for a tour of the steam-powered brewery, and there are local vinos to pick up at Trotton Estate (10 minutes) and Upperton Vineyards (20 minutes).
