If you're up for a spot of forest bathing – and in the company of free-roaming ponies – Ashurst Caravan and Camping Site, in the New Forest National Park, might be a spot that will suit you rather well. At this family-friendly site, you can choose to set up camp on flat, grassy pitches or delve deeper into the woods to stay in the shade of ancient oak trees. After that, all you need to do is embrace the peaceful vibe – or, if you prefer, get active by heading out for walks along waymarked trails through the woods, perhaps stopping for a rest and a pint of real ale at a traditional pub en route. If the grazing ponies and assorted birdlife on site have whetted your appetite for more animal-flavoured experiences, it's good to know that there's more of that within easy reach – within a 15-minute drive you can spy on otters, wolves and boars (New Forest Wildlife Park), watch deer being fed (Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary), and get up close and personal with farmyard animals and alpacas (Longdown Activity Farm). Whatever you choose to fill your days with, you may well be in need of a change of clothes and a freshen up once you get back to your pitch. That's easily done here, as the site's facilities include showers, a toilet block and launderette. Several gastropubs within a five-minute drive serve home-cooked meals, or you can walk into Ashurst village (five minutes on foot) and stock up on barbecue essentials at the supermarket. Please note, however, that disposable barbecues are not allowed on site.

Inside the bell tent, you'll find a cosy and well-equipped space, designed to ensure your comfort while enjoying the natural beauty of the New Forest. The bell tent comfortably sleeps up to 2 adults and 2 children, with a double bed and two futon single beds. It’s the ideal setup for families, offering a perfect blend of outdoor adventure and restful comfort.
The interior features flooring and LED lighting. While we supply most of the essentials to make your stay as comfortable as possible, there are a few things you’ll need to bring with you. You’ll need to bring all bedding, including sheets, blankets, and pillows. Additionally, make sure to bring your cooking equipment, such as a burner, kettle, pans, and utensils, so you can prepare your meals.
With everything you need for a relaxing and memorable stay, the Ashurst bell tent allows you to enjoy the beauty of the New Forest while having all the conveniences you need for a perfect glamping experience.

Each bell tent has a cool box, stocked with fresh ice blocks upon your arrival, which you can easily swap at reception to keep your food and drinks chilled. The tent is also equipped with cutlery and crockery for up to four people, so you can dine in comfort. Outside, you’ll have an exclusive seating area with a picnic bench, perfect for enjoying meals or simply taking in the views of the surrounding woodland. A coal BBQ and utensils are also provided, making it easy to prepare a tasty outdoor meal.

Lyndhurst is just a short drive away, offering a range of local shops, restaurants, and cafes. Alternatively, you can take a short walk to the ‘Happy Cheese,’ a nearby pub serving delicious food.

Wild ponies are happy to graze around you.

Shut gates mean no access to most people. please put a note by the gate informing of your procedure

We walked up the path on site to this beautiful woodland. great walk for all level walkers.

Great morning waking up to these beauties.

Was wonderful seeing the horses on site and they kept their distance to tents.

Horses wondered freely arpynd and didnt interfeer with the tents or caravans.

The horses truly made campiing a memorable unique experience.

The train tracks are close but not overly noisy.

喜欢: Lovely clean & organised site, with excellent showers, washing up and laundry facilities.
Staff were friendly.
The pub next door was an added bonus for meals and a play park for the children in easy walking distance. Loved everything especially the horses which make the experience magical.

喜欢: Beautiful site, a good location as a base to visit lots of places in a short drive. The train is a great service and a good price to get to the coast. Great local pubs with child friendly gardens and looked like good food.

不喜欢: The site is close to the train track but most are only little trains and they don't go on all night. It didn't bother us but may do some. Gates to the site are also locked at night so if you are a night owl or early bird you may want to check those times fit before booking.

喜欢: That I know the site is lovely, free range access and pitching. Great services from previous visits

不喜欢: Customer service between pitchup and Ashhurst. I advised I might by slightly late and asked is there any facility to cope with that, otherwise I would book elsewhere. I received no response, however now understand there is a facility to cope with slightly late (12 minutes in my case) arrivals. If they had read the note I added to pitchup, I would have been able to stay. As it is I didn't get to and spent two hours searching for someplace else. On calling, ashhurst just blamed Pitchup. The isn't hard guys - Pitchup need to provide the notes people leave on their booking to the sites, and the sites need to read them and respond if they want future business.

There’s a lot of enjoyment to be found in simply wandering through the woods around here, but if you want a specific place to head for, perhaps try Blackwater Arboretum (10 minutes’ drive), which has a collection of trees from around the world, or Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary (15 minutes), where you’ll be guaranteed to spot the native animals at feeding time. As well as all the wildlife attractions around here, there’s also one where the animals are rather larger than life… younger kids will no doubt love the chance to meet their cartoon favourites in person at Paultons Park Home of Peppa Pig World (15 minutes), plus the chance to go on various gentle rides. For older children, the gleaming attractions of the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu (15 minutes) may be more suitable. This location on the eastern side of the national park also gives easy access to Southampton (15 minutes) for the SeaCity Museum and Solent Sky aircraft exhibition or boarding ferries for a trip to the Isle of Wight.
