Off to explore the Lake District, the Scottish Borders or Hadrian's Wall – and want to stay at a holiday park with heaps to do on site for when you’re not out and about? Nearby Solway Holiday Park should fit the bill, as it's had several million pounds on updating its leisure facilities to make this 130-acre holiday park a highly sought-after place to stay on the stunning Solway Firth coast. It’s also located within walking distance of the Victorian seaside town of Silloth, in a handy spot for all sorts of outings on both sides of the England/Scotland border. That mix means you can really tailor your holiday to your own tastes, whether you’re planning to explore the scenery of the Lake District National Park and Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, hit the beach or focus your attentions on the activities available on site (or some combination of all of the above…) And those activities… well, there are lots and lots of them to fill your time with. The indoor pool, sports field and games arcade might be a place to start (all of these being free to use) while you consider which of the other activities you might like to join in with. Might it be aqua games, teddy bear hunts or pirates and princesses adventures for the younger kids, or archery, zorbing, axe throwing and bird of prey experiences for older guests? Head over to reception to find out the options and put your schedule together. It’s really worth finding some time for the entertainment too – there’s a packed programme of all sorts from kids’ shows through karaoke and bingo to live music from top-notch performers. Of course, all the practicalities are covered here too – the site has a launderette, a mini market and a restaurant/bar that’s open through the day for breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks.

喜欢: Staff very friendly and helpful peaceful site

不喜欢: Touring area very poorly lit most pitches were very muddy and toilet block very dirty not cleaned in a regular basis

喜欢: Good variety of things to do, nice clean facilities

不喜欢: It would be preferable to have separate grass pitches for caravans and tents. A good many of the pitches we saw (including ours), had deep hollows and deep tracks in the grass from caravan wheels, which isn't good for pitching a tent on

喜欢: Brilliant park!

Had a great time loads for the kids to do.

The toilets were clean(ish) they said they cleaned them every hour but wasn’t sure about this as they were blocked a couple of times and the toilet paper wasn’t changed all of the time. Would say take your own.

The shower block was clean and tidy and the showers were hot. I have seen a couple of people comment that there wasn’t enough places to hang clothing and I agree. But I will take a warm shower any day.

The pitches were great but if camping take hard ground pegs as we struggled with the pegs in areas.

I saw a few comments about the pitches and worried before we went. They were fine, no flooding when we got there and there were some hard standing pitches for camper/caravans. It rained Friday night (the site can’t help the weather) and we got some puddles under the tent. But it did not let the place down.

The swimming pool was warm every time we went, you have to book every time you want to swim and only get an hour but it was enough as there aren’t slides or anything but was a welcomed break in the day.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

I again worried that there would be noise past 9pm. Honestly there was but I think we must have had a great group of campers as it was quiet before 10pm and there was no arguing or shouting.

We were not bored at all and we will be back!!

不喜欢: Honestly the only thing that let it down was that there wasn’t allocated pitches. When we arrived there was no guarantee that you would get an electrical pitch despite paying for one.

喜欢: Was met by a member of staff on arrival and shown around the site,
Showers and toilets were regularly clean.
Activities were well priced and the children loved the pottery painting (£10-£20 per item)

不喜欢: No play park/swings etc for kids

喜欢: Liked all the amenties. Toilet and shower rooms were all nice n kept clean. Also got a wash room for dishes. Entertaintment was great as the incorporated the kids into everything.

不喜欢: Didmt like the fact the ground for tent pitches werent nice n flat esp with us just staying on forst day of opening for season. Would expect flat grounds n grass to be in good condition. Holes, lumps, patches were grass wasnt fixed etc

喜欢: I could imagine this site was good if you have children.

不喜欢: The touring site was very muddy and not a lot of room between pitches. The toilets were terrible, very dirty, toilet roll everywhere on the floor and none to use. Toilets should be cleaned more than once a day. There was rubbish everywhere with no sign of anyone cleaning it up. Not enough signage either around the site.

当地景点

On the English side of the Firth, Solway guests can reach the north-western lakes of the Lake District National Park, day trips to Carlisle and the hills and stargazing of Northumberland National Park. On the Scottish side, you could hike the Galloway Hills, run away to Gretna or drive further afield to urban days out at Edinburgh or Glasgow. (To see it all at once, take a trip to championship Solway Golf Course where you can tee around to views of the Lakeland Fells, Galloway Hills and across to the Isle of Man.) Moseying towards Northumberland (stop off at Carlisle Castle and The Lanes shopping centre on the way), friends, Romans and countrymen can walk as much of the Hadrian’s Wall Path as they can manage: it’s the north of England’s most visited tourist attraction and most of it runs along the Solway Firth on its way to Northumberland. Happily for such a family-centred site, kiddish fun is all around Solway Holiday Park too: farm park Orton Grange, getting open-mouthed at the fish and other inhabitants at Lake District Coast Aquarium, or going on a hop around award-winning World of Beatrix Potter.
