Now, Alfred Wainwright knew a thing or two about the Lake District – so when this esteemed author says that Carrock Fell is the second-most interesting fell in the northern Lakes you’d have to believe him. (Blencathra is top of the list, by the way – and that’s not far away either…) Just at the foot of this fabulous fell is Carrock Pods, an adults-only glamping spot that’s probably got some of the finest views the Cumbria countryside has to offer. The pods have been designed to help guests make the most of that scenery from inside or out – perhaps you’d like to settle on the private veranda to cook dinner over the firepit, or maybe you’d prefer to snuggle up on the sofa and take in the views through the pod’s glass front… The fully insulated pods are constructed from solid timber and have heating and double glazing to keep them lovely and cosy in all weathers. Each one has a double bedroom, an ensuite shower room and a mini kitchen with hob, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. Comfy chairs and a picnic bench outside mean that you’ve got plenty of choice of places to take in the stunning views, but surely the essential experience here is to pour a drink and take it out for a soak in your private hot tub as the sun sets. It’s equally fabulous after dark too, as this is an area of low light pollution that should allow for starry skies on a clear night. Supplies for these romantic alfresco evenings can be picked up at the shops in Wigton or Keswick (both about 25 minutes’ drive away). The nearest pub is about 10 minutes’ drive away if you’d like an evening out.

喜欢: After 17 years of looking after our boys me and the wife went away for our first weekend alone. It was lovely and quite no neighbours or distractions just a weekend of chilling. The pods were very cosy even when the weather was chilly out side the pod was very warm. The hot tub is now run on bio diesel so they are kept hot all the time and are there ready for a quick dip when you are. Met David the host on arrival and just before we departed so was left to if for the duration of our stay.

喜欢: The pods were lovely and warm and felt brand new, so clean and tidy and had all amenities needed for this type of break. The location brilliant for walks and the views and setting in the hot tub were beautiful. Host David was great and made sure we had all we needed, very friendly and helpful, thank you so much.

All set to get your eyes on some of the Lake District’s most scenic spots? Once you’ve thoroughly explored Carrock Fell, set off to see the one that Wainwright said was the best of the lot – Blencathra (20 minutes’ drive), which has a variety of routes up to its 868-metre peak, from easy ones to more challenging climbs. After that, there are still more fabulous views to be had at the likes of Aira Force waterfall (25 minutes) and Catbells (35 minutes). Whinlatter Forest Park (half an hour) has great trails for both walking and mountain biking, or you could set off for a gentle stroll with a woolly companion from Alpacaly Ever After (half an hour). For different days out, visit Keswick (25 minutes) for the Derwent Pencil Museum and Theatre by the Lake, meet the residents of the Lake District Wildlife Park (half an hour) or wander around Lowther Castle & Gardens (35 minutes).
