Set on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park, Brooklyn Grange Farm is a back-to-basics site on a family-run dairy farm surrounded by gorgeous Staffordshire countryside. The scenery here is varied indeed, with views over quiet fishing pools, grassy meadows and the spectacular rocky ridge known as The Roaches. You'll also be well placed to sample local produce at this small-scale site – you can head to the farm shop, which sells eggs, bacon, sausages, cheese, barbecue meats and other goodies, or grab a local ice cream, milkshake or fresh milk from the on-site Milk Barn. You're welcome to light up a barbecue, as long as it's kept off the grass. If you don't have your own, there are firepits for hire (a cash deposit is required) from the farm shop and kindling and logs for sale. There's also a village pub and carvery around 10 minutes' walk away on the edge of Thorncliffe (with another around 10 minutes' walk away in Blackshaw Moor). For more flavours, try Leek (five minutes' drive), a local market town with a good range of restaurants, cafés and food shops. After a trip to town it's back to the countryside, where you might like to try a spot of catch-and-return fishing at one of the site's well-stocked ponds (for an extra fee; you must have an Environment Agency licence; no fishing available during the spawning season, which is generally in late May and/or early June). You could also take yourself off for a hike in the national park (a mile away), where there are many miles of well-mapped trails to explore. As for facilities, Brooklyn Grange Farm has functional and well-maintained toilets for guests. There is one shower available here (bookable for an extra charge at the farm shop), or you can take the option of travelling five minutes down the road to Brough Park Leisure Centre.

喜欢: Loved this campsite. It is a working farm so it’s really nice to watch all the animals. Farm shop has milkshakes, ice creams and quite a lot of other bits too. Toilets were clean and shower was worth the extra £2.50 too.

喜欢: Great little farm shop on site everything was fresh and the prices were great we expected to pay a lot more for the quality we got and even bought more to take home with us as we were leaving, milkshakes are also amazing! The hosts were really kind and polite, clean site with well looked after pitches, kids loved that we could go and see the animals.

不喜欢: There was a problem with the portaloos on the last day due to a few people on site that I watched emptying their waste in and all over them but we were offered an alternative and the hosts did their best to sort the issue it absolutely wasn’t their fault at all.

喜欢: Lovely setting and great views of the roaches. Close to tittesworth and local pubs for food and drink. Handy having the farm shop. Loved all the farm animals

喜欢: The shop was well stocked with lovely food
The staff were friendly and very helpful
The ground where you pitch is well drained
Beautiful scenery
close to great walks
The reform pub is excellent and in walking distance
quiet at night

不喜欢: when we arrived on Saturday morning there were 4 porta loos available for use in our field over the first may bank holiday with plenty of loo paper and clean. By Sunday lunch time they were as bad as music festival toilets. Full, no paper....bad. No sign of being changed the staff did eventually open for all to use the ONE real toilet by the shower you had to pay for.
This is why I have given a mediocre score.

喜欢: The area and site was nice, farm shop had everything you’d need. Not far from local town. Really good stay

不喜欢: No showers and only two toilets, although can see the owners have already got plans in place to improve the facilities

喜欢: Everything - the views, the friendliness of the family farm, the site being open (not marked plots) and flat-ish, the farm shop produce

不喜欢: The toilet / shower / washing up facilities are basic but this is clearly being worked on. They are clean and functioning.

Make your way to the wild rides of Alton Towers (20 minutes' drive), the UK's biggest theme park. If your idea of fun doesn't include days full of white-knuckle rollercoaster rides, another family-friendly option is Peak Wildlife Park (10 minutes). For those rainy days, it's not far to reach Blaze Farm and The Potty Sheep (20 minutes), an ice cream farm which also organises paint-a-pot activities. For further agreeable outings, head to the Churnet Valley Railway (15 minutes) or the Manifold Valley (10 minutes) and Thor's Cave (20 minutes). You could go hiking and climbing at The Roaches (10 minutes), visiting Lud's Church (10 minutes) as an add-on. And where else to set your sights on? Trails Day (20 minutes' walk), a centre where guests can learn to ride a trial bike, or Tittesworth Reservoir (10 minutes' drive) for watersports and walking, and Madrenaline Activities (15 minutes) for archery and axe-throwing. Rudyard Lake (15 minutes) has a miniature railway too. A bit of luxury? You'll find it in the elegant grounds of Biddulph Grange Gardens (20 minutes), a local National Trust property, or in Buxton (20 minutes), an old spa town across the border in Derbyshire with a range of plush places to eat and drink.
