Fancying the sound of a sojourn on the Shropshire-Wales border? How about a shepherd’s hut set in its own private garden with lush countryside views? Sounds like you should be thinking about Hare’s Rest, in the pretty village of Balmer Heath and 10 minutes’ drive from Ellesmere. This place has a very impressive USP under its belt – it’s right next to the scenic Llangollen Canal, and you can watch the slow movement of narrow boats up and down the water to your heart’s content. Your well-designed accommodation packs in a comfy double bed, a compact dining area and an ensuite with shower, basin and flushing loo. The smart kitchen corner comes complete with kettle, toaster, a small fridge, cutlery and crockery. Tea, coffee and sugar are provided to perk you up on arrival, and there are thoughtful extras including a welcome pack of snacks, sightseeing information, board games, playing cards and a radio. Your private outdoor space comprises a firepit (wood is provided), wrought-iron garden furniture and far-reaching rural views. In the unlikely event that you need a change of scenery, there’s a pub less than five minutes’ drive away, and shops in Ellesmere if you’re running short on staples.
