City slickers – if you yearn for the bright lights of the UK capital but feel slightly faint at London hotel prices, it's likely that you'll find the setting of Elstree's Aldenham Country Park magic. The wild camping pitches at this peaceful park are less than a mile from the M1 motorway and 12 miles from central London – and three from Muggle-based antics at The Making of Harry Potter as well as seven from Wembley Stadium. (And another excellent aspect of Aldenham's location? It's a great option for Londoners seeking a nearby bolthole too.) Although it's so close to the city, Aldenham is spellbindingly rural, set on a 175-acre parkland site next to a large lake and maintaining a quiet countryside atmosphere with nature walks and animal feeding among the activities for guests. Kids can also search for Winnie in the Pooh in the park's 100 Aker Wood area. Other activities include cycle rides on woodland trails. The site's facilities include a café, playgrounds, barbecue rental and a shop selling farm produce. The amenities block has toilets, showers and disabled access.

喜欢 The freedom of the site
The staff were really helpful and friendly
The price seemed correct for the basic site provisions.

不喜欢 Only portaloos and only 4 in the field I stayed in right in the bottom corner which is not ideal for people on one side of the field.
One hot tap sink out in the open and one cold tap sink next to it

喜欢 Easy and fast check in, great atmosphere, relaxed and calm. Beautiful grounds. Close enough to get into London city easily but far enough away to be in the countryside. Love that you can pitch up anywhere.

不喜欢 Only issue was that the toilets were often unclean and unsanitary. For such a large campsite a shower / sink / toilet upgrade would be ideal.

喜欢 Great site and amenities, clean toilets and hot showers. The campfire package had everything we needed to get a fire going. Had a nice walk around the reservoir in the morning.

不喜欢 The on-site cafe was a bit disorganised, but probably still finding their feet at the start of the season

Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter three miles away. Watford's award-winning country house and greenery is four miles away; within five miles, zip along to the Royal Air Force Museum London, for a day among five huge buildings and hangars including a Battle of Britain Hall, and dozens of retired aircraft including Hawkers and Lancasters. A 60-acre lake and sandy beach are six miles away at Ruislip Lido, along with a woodland centre, fishing platforms, play areas, a water splash area and a miniature railway.
