Even a quick look at the pictures will tell you that Hotiday Lodge Castiglione makes a top spot for a family holiday on the Tuscany coast. Yes, that is a sandy beach right by the site – meaning that it will take you approximately a minute to walk there to play in the sand, swim in the clear waters or relax on a lounger at one of the equipped areas (a charge applies for using these). Too far, or fancy a change of scenery? There’s an open-air pool on site, open from June to September with plenty of free-use sun loungers and a shallow pool for the kids to splash about in. There’s also a play area they might like to hang out in, and there are various activities laid on for them in the summer months. Grownups, don't worry about being left out – there’s entertainment laid on for you too. Accommodation here is designed with fuss-free holidays in mind as well. You'll be staying in a smart and well-equipped caravan with its own bathroom, a TV and a kitchen area with cooker, fridge and microwave. Bedding and towels are provided, and there’s both heating and air conditioning to make sure you'll be just the right temperature at all times. Having a kitchen is very handy, but don't feel obliged to cook if you don't want to – the site also has a restaurant and bar so you can easily hand over the dinner duties (or at least reward your efforts with a nice cool drink). Alternatively, head to nearby Castiglione della Pescaia (10 minutes' drive) to try out one of the eateries over there.

No doubt you'll spend much of your time here at the beach by the site – but you don’t have to limit yourselves to just the one spot, as there are several other lovely places to try out. The closest is Castiglione della Pescaia (10 minutes' drive), where you can wander around the medieval walls and castle before settling on the sands. If you like an active beach day, head to Marina di Grosseto (25 minutes) for watersports and beach horse riding. Something a bit quieter? Punta Ala (20 minutes) has a nice beach and a golf course, and the remote Cala Violina Scarlino (15 minutes) is a good option for those who like a secluded sandy stretch – it's only accessible via a forest path. Nature outings nearby could involve canoeing on the River Ombrone (45 minutes) or strolls in the Maremma Regional Park (an hour). For a cultural day, head to Grosseto (half an hour) to visit the Aldobrandeschi Palace and cathedral, or explore the museums.
