Lakeside living without the usual luxury price tag? If the answer is an enthusiastic ‘si, grazie mille’, sail on over to cosy little Campeggio Olivella in the village of Pilzone on the eastern shore of Lake Iseo.
Not in possession of your own boat? Then you’ll need to arrive in a more traditional manner – wheeling in by car or bike, or taking the short trot from the local train station (a mere five minutes or so as long as you don’t spend too long gawping at the views; plenty of time for that later).
There’s no huge list of leisure facilities to run through at this place, and with good reason – who needs them with these views? No doubt you’ll be itching to get out and about with haste anyway, hiring boats or bikes just outside the site, swimming from the little stretch of private beach over the road or signing up for watersports available down the road in Iseo town. Or maybe you’d prefer to play a round of golf (again with a backdrop that doesn’t favour the easily distracted putter), mosey around the Franciacorta vineyards or take a boat trip to Monte Isola (Europe’s largest lake island).
It’s but a couple of minutes’ amble to get into the village for restaurants and the local nightclub; further noshes are available at the bars, restaurants, bakeries and grocery store in Sulzano, three kilometres away.

Lokala sevärdheter
Outdoorsy types will find plenty to keep them busy around the shores of Lake Iseo. Bring bikes or hire them on site to do a circuit of the lake on a 66-kilometre cycle path, or get your hiking boots on to walk up into the foothills of the Alps on the ancient Valerian road that starts 500 metres from the site.
Various watersports are available around the lake, with the closest watersports centres in Iseo town (five kilometres away) offering sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and scuba diving among others. Brave souls can take canyoning trips from Sarnico, half an hour away by car, while those of gentler persuasion can stick to dry land on the golf course in Franciacorta, 15 minutes away.
Drive north for 10 minutes or so to come to Sulzano, the jumping-off point for trips to Monte Isola. A little further afield (25 minutes) are the Pyramids of Zone, natural 'fairy chimneys' that reach up to 30 metres tall, and Brescia, with cathedral, castle and underground tours of the rivers and Roman sites lurking beneath the city’s streets.
The Franciacorta vineyards are about 20 minutes away.
