If you’re picking holiday reads to bring to Whitemead Caravan Park in Wool, Dorset, there’s one blindingly obvious contender: step forward local lad Mr Thomas Hardy. Reread your old copy of Tess of the D’Urbervilles down here and you may just spot a few similarities between a couple of local buildings and certain locations in the novel. Even if literary references aren’t your thing, there are many reasons to plant yourselves at this family-run park in the Dorset village of Wool. Chief among these may well be its easy access to a plethora of transport options: make life easy by leaving your car or caravan on site and toddling a few minutes to the train station or bus stops for your days out. Alternatively, get legs going on the network of local walking and bike paths – heaps of fab attractions are within easy reach on foot or two wheels. Upon your return to the village, reward your efforts with a feed of fish and chips or a restorative pint of local ale at one of the two pubs within staggering distance. Also within a few minutes’ walk are a butcher and a baker (sadly no candlestick maker) where you can pick up fresh food for the evening barbie. Less poetic but no less convenient are the village’s two supermarkets, and the park’s own mini market, full of handy essentials. If you didn’t quite manage to tire your kids out during the day, send them over to the playground, or wander over to the games room for a few rounds of pool, darts or table football. Wifi is available if they need a little bit of quiet time alone to play with gadgetry. The park stretches over five acres so you can always find a shaded spot to settle down with a glass of wine and a Hardy novel (other authors’ works are also permitted..).

Tyckte om: Excellent toilet/shower block, exceptionally clean, grass cut short, site kept to a high standard, rubbish bins in various places on site all of which emptied regularly, very helpful staff, washer/dryer, on site shop, lovely dog walk route along the river, good tv signal, great pub next door which serves good food, train/bus station 100yds away, fish and chip shop just down the road.

Tyckte om: Peaceful and great meet and greet to show us to the pitch. Very helpful and friendly.
Excellent facilities which were very clean and well kept.cleaned regularly.
Well maintained pitches.
Great situ. Dog walks from our pitch to the river. Train station and bus routes on the doorstep.
Pub next to site and shops etc 5 min walk

Tyckte om: We tent pitched at Whitemean caravan park for 2nts earlier this week. Lone parent, two children and two dogs. We also had two other family members book and come along to join us, in their own tent pitch.
The staff/family were really helpful and pitched us close together for our ease and convenience. The check in, site navigation, and rules were all straightforward and efficient. The site itself is immaculate. Facilites immaculate. Alot of pride has gone into the site and the day to day running of it.
Decent, peaceful and respectful campers & holiday makers will do well here and appreciate here. Highly recommended.
Ideal base location for exploring the Jurassic coast which was our main aim as a family.

Tyckte om: The cleanest campsite we have ever stayed. So peaceful and the staff was.very friendly. The location was unbeatable. We have had a very pleasant stay and look.forward to going back. My daughter also enjoyed it very much. Especially the playground where we could see from our tent.

Tyckte om: We stayed here for two nights at the weekend and couldn't fault our stay at all. All long-term campers, as well as the staff that greeted us on arrival, were lovely. The gentleman who showed us to our pitch gave us information on everything we needed to know and the ladies in the office were bubbly and friendly.

We particularly liked the radio in the shower/toilet block. Such a small touch but brightens everybody's mood and gives you something to jig along to if you require a midnight wee!

Pitches were clean and flat, the place was well maintained, plenty of bins, and a lovely walk down the track to the river no more than 5 minutes. Of course, the fantastic weather was a lovely addition to our stay but sunshine or not, this place would've ticked all of our boxes.

Tyckte inte om: ((Absolutely not a dislike)) For those that tend not to take food with them, bear in mind there isn't a massive amount of food places to take food away from. There are lovely pubs nearby and a Chinese but, particularly with our dog, we were looking for places we could return to camp to eat! We were happy to have the lovely chippy down the road for two nights in a row but there is little to no deliveroo/ubereats. Something to bear in mind!

For next time, please do visit us in reception to pick up some leaflets of local eateries and take away places in the area that do their own deliveries to our campsite (not through JustEat, Deliveroo and UberEats) such as The 29029 Restaurant, a lovely Indian restaurant, and Street Pizza for Italian pizzas, pasta and the like, to name a just a couple. Our staff have tried them all and can recommend each one personally. ;)

Tyckte om: On arrival we were greeted by Shane who took us under his wings. We drove on the park, shame unhitched the caravan, popped it onto his little tractors and put it onto our pitch. All we had to do was level up, connect the electrics and fill the water. Service was just brilliant.
Shane kept popping back toake sure everything was ok and we were comfortable. Then we met the owners, Roy and Jill who were so nice and jolly. Overall a brilliant site to stay in. The toilets and shower blocks were that clean you could easily eat your dinner off the floors. Please don't hesitate to stay here, you will be pleased you did.

Från föreståndaren: Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that our showers and toilets met your with your approval. We take a lot of pride in the cleanliness of our facilities and the overall appearance of our campsite and appreciation of our hard work never goes amiss.

Even though it isn't an issue raised by many of our guests, we are sorry to hear that you found the sound of a few passing cars and the occasional train, disturbing, especially since our guests usually comment on how quiet and tranquil our site is.

Also, with regards to our CCTV system, we would like to point out that the camera you are referring to is actually aimed at the entrance gates to our middle and bottom fields and it just so happen that the pitch you were on, could be seen in the distance. Our CCTV cameras are a crucial part of our security system - an aspect most of our guests appreciate and find very reassuring. Could it be that you felt it intrusive because our warden found you overnighting in your car rather than your tent, regardless of it being made quite clear on your arrival that it is not allowed on our site? Since your actions were in breach of our Terms and Conditions, we could have asked you to leave, but we are not in the business of ruining anybodys' holidays so, instead, we allowed you to remain on site, providing that you refrain from sleeping in your vehicle for the rest of your stay. Another site might not have been so accommodating.

We would like to thank you again for staying with us.

Tyckte om: We loved Whitemead. It is a quiet spot, very accessible, with lovely owners and brilliant facilities in terms of bathrooms and a washing-up area. It is also ideally located for visiting the many places on the Dorset coast.

On the edge of the Isle of Purbeck and halfway between Bournemouth and Dorchester, Wool is handily placed for reaching some excellent attractions. Closest to the park are Monkey World and the Tank Museum in Bovington, both within a five-minute drive, 10-minute cycle or half-hour walk. If you’d like to play at being a knight, 15 minutes’ drive brings you to Corfe Castle, a medieval ruin with nooks and crannies for hiding out. Five miles south are the sea and the Jurassic Coast’s most famed attractions – Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Other options for days out include cycling around Wareham Forest followed by boating on the River Frome from Wareham (10 minutes’ drive), or a trip on the Swanage Railway half an hour away, or – well, it’s safe to say you won’t get bored...
