Wide skies, ocean on the horizon, skylarks singing, the sound of waves and salty sea air… If any of the above perks your interest, make your way to Bryn a Môr, set on a 37-acre farm on the edge of the south Camarthenshire coast. This green place has spectacular views of Carmarthen and Saundersfoot bays – you can see the Devon coastline on clear days – and is an adults-only spot. The site is 10 minutes’ drive away from Pendine (where you can pick up grocery basics) and has three beaches within 40 minutes’ walk. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is directly on the boundary of the property, backed by craggy cliffs which are popular with climbers. Within around 30 minutes, it's also possible to walk to ancient burial cairns and hilltop forts. In line with the site’s eco aims, it’s off-grid (although charging facilities are available), so it cannot cope with any high-energy appliances, and there is a strict recycling policy, with bins provided. If you’re keen to leave the car at home, the site owners can pick you up from Pendine when notified in advance. The site is accessed via a long track skirting a wooded valley, a little walk from the car park; guests are offered wheelbarrows to transport their belongings. After a day of beachcombing or hiking, cosy up around the communal firepit and keep warm while stargazing on clear nights. A campfire cooking set can be hired from the site.

Gostou Such a beautiful spot! Had a lovely welcome from Cassandra who showed us round the site. Our camping pitch was super quiet and not overlooked at all but also really close to the facilities which was great. Really peaceful and a beautiful spot for walking the coast path and enjoying the many local beaches and coves.

Gostou Fabulous location with views of the sea, access to the Wales Coastal path and beaches. We camped under the chestnut tree which was delightful and one of only two camping spots. It was lovely and peaceful and fantastic to be surrounded by nature. The facilities were great, the camping kitchen was a real bonus ( we didn’t need to unpack our stove etc). Cassandra was a lovely hosted and gave us lots of useful information.

Caban Fawr cabana 1 dormitório

Gostou I stayed in the shepherd’s hut Caban Fawr, for 3 nights while attending a basket making course. The hut was cosy, clean, beautifully furnished and I had everything I needed. The view from the hut was stunning and there were lovely coastal walks directly from the campsite.

Gostou What an incredible stay, from the friendly welcome by the owners, to the views, the birdsong and the beautiful shepherds hut I stayed in, words can’t describe the wonderful time I had here! 3 gorgeous beaches, sea swims, unspoilt starlight and immersion in the natural beauty around me…this really is a special place!
I stayed in Caban Fawr, exquisitely made, and so comfortable! It has a well equipped kitchen, everything you’d need! 2 seating areas, its own shower and loo, and a beautiful stained glass window too. I could have quite happily stayed here forever!

Gostou We loved the peaceful vibes and being surrounded by nature. You can see the sea from the site and easily walk to a couple of nearby beaches. We really enjoyed learning a little more about the plants and animals around the site, and it was particularly nice purchasing some of the eggs and veg!

Gostou Bryn a Môr was such a great find! We always look for sites that feel like a nice hybrid between wild camping and having facilties like a toilet and shower nearby, and this delivered perfectly. The site is really close to a number of secluded beaches and some lovely walks. The facilties - compost toilet, hot shower, outdoor sink and indoor stove, recycling- were amazing, super clean and it was basically just us using them. Everyone was super friendly and helpful, and the resident dog was a particular highlight.

Close to Bryn a Môr, there’s a beach to suit every mood. The busy sands at Pendine (20 minutes’ walk) are a hub for watersports, with a hire shop and instruction available. Near-deserted Morfa Bychan (10 minutes) is backed by dunes, while wild Marros Sands (30 minutes along the coast path) has walks to a petrified forest. You can also head to Saundersfoot (half an hour’s drive) or Amroth (15 minutes). To mash up your outdoor adventures with a spot of culture-vulturing, visit the former waterside home of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas at Laugharne (20 minutes), stopping by Laugharne Castle to see the Norman towers and tour the knot garden. Medieval Carew Castle (half an hour) should also be on your to-do list for the looped walk around its ruins to the 18th-century mill. Animal antics more your style? Spot tigers and rhinos on a walking safari at Manor Wildlife Park (half an hour), or watch raptor flying displays at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (40 minutes).
