Newlands Holiday Park

Gostou This was our second stay and the convenient facilities enticed us back.

Swimming pool on site (not free, booking required, £3.50pp when we visited with under 2s free). There is a small jaccuzi and sauna, unisex changing facilities and an indoor and outdoor pool. The outdoor pool also has a small toddler splash/play area, though it was a bit too cold to use it during our visit.

A small soft play on site (free, access with code from reception).

Large outdoor play area, with equipment for toddlers and older children.

There's a small coin-operated launderette (2 washers, 2 dryers).

Friendly reception staff on check-in.

We were given a handy map of the site upon check-in.

Easy access to the main road by car.

Easy access to Charmouth by car, bus or on foot.

There's a nice walk up to Stonebarrow if you don't mind the steep hill.

A convenient, if overpriced, Spar shop on site.

The views are beautiful on a clear day.

At night, when it's clear, you can see so many stars.

Não gostou Unfortunately, we are unlikely to be returning for a third stay. This is because:

Our pitch was very sloped, so we all slid down in the tent overnight.

The pitch itself was very stony and it was hard to get the tent pegs in without bending them.

The non-electric pitches were not clearly defined and the staff member was squeezing people in anywhere he could, meaning the pitches were very cramped. We stayed last summer and it was far more organised. It felt like the owners had overbooked the site this year.

The facilities need updating, cleaning and repairing - the unisex/family cubicles were locked (and clearly had been for some time judging by the cobwebs on the doors) which is inconvenient for parents with opposite-sex children, the single-sex facilities were frequently smelly and dirty with clogged toilets. Again, last year these were in much better condition. I did see a few cleaning and maintenance staff but it felt like more staff and/or more frequent cleanings were required to cope with how busy the site was.

The push taps everywhere are hard for children to operate, as are the stiff flush buttons in the toilets.

The pool needs a lifeguard on duty, or at least a staff member, to reduce inconsiderate behaviour.

The wash up station was dirty and felt cramped because some sinks were unusable. The push taps are inconvenient for washing large items. The sinks have no plugs so bowls are required if you don't want to be continually pressing the taps.

There are not enough bins around site.

Gostou Good pitch. Plenty of facilities on site.

Não gostou Very busy especially in club at night. Toilets weren’t very clean. There were cleaning staff on site but they struggled with the way campers treated the toilets! Sad reflection on uk families.

Gostou Second time coming here. Lovely place. Love the play area now, when we came last year it was being done. Pool and arcades great fair the kids also. Bar and restaurant great. Food was so filling, we struggled to eat our food. Our son broke his arm the first day. We were there and reception were great when I called them from our pitch and sent someone with the first aid box to bring us a sling so so quickly. Showers were hot, toilet area and laundry area clean and tidy.
So close to Charmouth beach and Lyme Regis.

Gostou Kids loved the swimming and the entertainment. The play park is also really good. Having a free onsite soft play was also great in the rain.

Não gostou We were in the black field and it felt really cramped. Hardly any space between tents. There also appeared to be a few groups who weren’t pitched together meaning it was quite loud as they went between tents. Toilets, showers and washing up areas unclean.

Gostou The views were stunning beautiful hillsides in the distance surrounded by trees and nature, the facilities were good, hot water, good size showers and toilets. Swimming pool, shop etc and many other facilities that we didn’t use

Não gostou No mention of camping on a hill on the website so we were sliding in the tent most of the time, cooking was hard as everything just kept sliding down. Not all pitches are on a hill though some are flat, washing up area the taps could do with being fully running rather than having to push down every 10 seconds, no plugs either so bring your own bowl or you have to multitask with the tap and washing at the same time

Gostou A beautifully located site, facilities were well after very well, good amenities on site. A lovely base camp to explore the other local places from beaches. Harbours, national trust walks, to shopping for trinkets. Will definitely be returning and highly recommended.

Não gostou Camp electric pitches don’t give much room in between so can feel like your on top of each other if you have several large tents around you, but easily solved for us as we used the side entrance instead of the front porch when the site filled up.

Gostou Bar and shop were good, we didn’t eat but menu looked good

Não gostou Check in staff were a little vague, Gents shower and toilet block needs a lot of reinvestment.

Gravel strips in front of the porches need to be tarmac like the other roads as everything is covered in dust.

A35 was much closer than realised and very noisy.

Washing up sinks are very shallow and no plugs are supplied as well as the horrible push taps (feels like we can’t be trusted with normal ones)
