Set on the edge of Stithians Reservoir, Lakeside Camping provides a smashing base for exploring Cornwall. Why? Well, the site is handily equidistant from both the north and south coasts, with Redruth, Helston and Truro all within 30 minutes’ drive. This is just the spot for an active break: cyclists are in pole position for pedalling to the ruined mine at The Great Flat Lode (a 10-minute cycle depending upon how fast you pedal) or whizzing along the Bissoe Cycle Trail (also 10 minutes away). Walkers are in luck too, as Stithians Reservoir is (literally) on your doorstep and is ringed by a hike through woodland and heath. After a good walk or pedal, Lakeside Camping is just the spot for chilling and watching the world waft past, as it's surrounded by the Cornish countryside. If you want to spark up the barbecue, pick up supplies in Redruth (10 minutes’ drive) but you should know that there is an award-winning, lakeside pub right next door, serving delicious food and a cracking pint – and it’s just a short stumble back to your comfy pod. In the shower block, there’s a washing-up area as well as a washing machine and tumble dryer (coin-operated) if your clothes need sprucing up.

Gostou Met on arrival by Sarah who gave us a lovely welcome, site is clean, facilities are basic but clean, honesty shop was well stocked with usual products. Everyone on the site was friendly with lovely walks around the lake. Will definitely be returning.

Gostou Nice small campsite, with a pub right next door. We were hoping to go for a walk around the lake, but it's no very dog friendly there.

There's also 3 campsites virtually next door to eachother all sharing similar names... 2nd time lucky for us!

Loved the little self service shop on site, has all the essentials.

Facilities were clean enough, only small but adequate for the campsite size.

Não gostou We didn't receive a welcome pack when we arrived, so we weren't sure on the code to get back into the gate. But I'm sure if we asked we would have gotten it.

Gostou The peace and quiet.
Space and size of pitch.
Surroundings and close proximity to the pub and lake.
Great little shop and nice facilities for cleaning yourselves (shower and toilets) and your things (Laundry/wash up area)
WiFi is available on site but we didn’t need to use it as there was great 4G signal in the area.

Gostou What a great little site, so pleased that we found it! We will definitely be returning. Welcomed by Sarah and guided to a small well kept field to one of about 10 large and serviced pitches. Small toilet and wash/shower room but clean and had everything you need and a few nice and thoughtful extras, these included washing up area, microwave, kettle, washing machines etc. the site also has a super cute little shop for all the essentials you might need that you have either run out of or may have forgotten, you pay into a honesty box for the items you use. The site has access to the pub (with its own touring site) next door and sits just back from Stithians reservoir, which has a large water sports centre and cafe. The location is central to the west of Cornwall, which means you can watch the weather forecasts and then easily get to wherever the sun is and the rain isn’t! Be that South, North or West coast, all within a 30 minute leisurely drive. I don’t want to shout to loudly about this site as it really is a hidden gem, and we selfishly want to be able to book again without it getting too crowded or expensive. For us it was perfect. Thank you and very much hope to be back soon.

Gostou This little site is a gem, a hide away from the huddle and bustle. Really clean loos and showers, washing up facilities and a washer and dryer. The little honesty shop is great if you have forgotten any essential, the pub is next door too.

To hit up the Cornish coast, head north to Portreath beach (20 minutes’ drive) for harbourside walks and bodyboarding, or turn south to Falmouth for a swim off the sandy, Blue Flag beach at Gyllyngvase (both 20 minutes). Watersports buffs should have a go at surfing on Towan Beach (40 minutes) or hire a dinghy from Mylor Yacht Harbour (25 minutes) to get out on the Carrick Roads estuary. And what about Cornwall’s real big-hitting attractions? The Eden Project (55 minutes) is worthy of a day’s trip to see all the madcap art installations and rare plants in glass biodomes. At Land’s End Landmark Attraction (an hour) you can pose for selfies at the iconic signpost, while The Lost Gardens of Heligan (55 minutes) are open for romantic strolls amid wonderful plantings. Finally, for some sweet strolls surrounded by sub-tropical greenery, head to Trebah Garden (25 minutes). This spot has plants from around the globe, as well as a splendid little beach with a boathouse café.
