Zebras, tigers and bokibokies await in these handsome Hampshire surrounds – taking the kids to see Marwell Zoo's multitude of beasts is likely to make for some very happy hols indeed. Marwell Resort is within walking distance of this much-loved menagerie and is home to plenty of adventurous action in its own right – head here if you like the sound of oodles of outdoor activities in a pretty lakeside setting. The team at Marwell Resort have been instructing for more than 25 years, so they're well qualified to help you try out sports like archery, quad biking and clay pigeon shooting. Please note that many of these activities have a minimum age restriction applied- please check directly with the site. The site lake has a total of nine swims available for anglers (mega-sized carp can be found in its waters, including whoppers weighing up to 45 pounds). Surrounded as it is by trees, it also looks pretty fine (especially at sundown) and is a popular spot with local wildlife. Marwell Resort has strong all-round facilities, including toilets, showers and wifi. There's also an on-site bistro restaurant that serves up nourishing meals seven days a week. You can set up a barbecue and cook your own grub, too (stock up on fresh meat and veg 15 minutes' drive away at Westlands Farm Shop).

Gostou: Bar good , adventure golf good. Playground good. Pizza really good.

Não gostou: Toilets could have done with more cleaning..2 toilets in mens blocked for 2 days. soap dispensers not refilled. Locks not working on some toilets. Was a little run down not sure about some activities. Also as tourers bit concerned re security as no barriers

Gostou: Great location, clean and tidy, despite some recent reviews I had seen. Booked at arrived at short notice (2 hrs) we were welcomed on arrival and shown to our pitch. This site has a really good bar and restaurant. We were aware this was off peak (so before everything really opens) so I can only imagine this gets better when the pizzas start cooking outside.. The food was excellent, staff are great. Highly recommend.

Gostou: We liked the level, gravel pitch next to the large grassed area with football goals, which the children from No different accommodation congregated at to play together. There are a good variety of activities on site, although not all open when we visited at Easter. It would be nice to go back in Summer to experience them all.

Não gostou: The toilet and shower block was disappointing, it didn’t feel very clean and it was cold. The washing up area is just 2 sinks, outside, so not the most pleasant to wash up in, especially as it Who? didn’t feel very clean. It was a shame that when we arrived reception was shut and we had to walk around the site trying to work out how to check in for about 15 minutes, even though it was within the stated check-in time.

Gostou: Lovely quiet site, nice gravel pitch with water, some of the Google reviews are negative but we thought it was a lovely site and will be going again - we enjoyed the clay pigeon shooting and there were good walks around the site for the dog, good location close to Southampton and the new forest.

Gostou: Good size pitch, hard standing with hook up was great for us. Lovely location and with lots of activities on site (we would have booked more but not all available when we stayed as early in the season). Mini golf was great, as was the air rifle shooting (instructor was great with our daughter).
I saw reviews commenting on the noise from clay shooting, it was close to us but we knew it was an activity on site and only a couple of times a day, so really wasn’t a bother for us.
Cafe, bar and pizza on site was an advantage.
Friendly staff.
Showers a good size and good to have a small area with bench/hooks which stayed dry for clothes etc. lots of hot water.
Perfect location for a visit to the zoo on the way home.

Não gostou: Basin taps too powerful and impossible to use without water spraying out at you.
Light above washing up sinks wasn’t working when we stayed (though there was evidence some wiring work may have taken place recently, so maybe this is in hand).

Gostou: We enjoyed our stay at Marwell. Pitch size was ample. Facilities clean, showers hot. Good cafe and pizza facility on site. They did shut at 6 for food, which was bit early, but then it was early in the season.

Plenty of activities available on site, although children need to be a little older than ours to enjoy

Gostou: Fabulous, relaxed atmosphere. All the staff we met were very friendly and informative. We loved the activities, we did axe throwing and archery and mini-golf. The pizzas were delicious too as were the cocktails. Shower block was great, though there were 2 types of shower curtain and the lighter weighted one kept sticking to me in the shower which was a little annoying.

Não gostou: The lighter shower curtain as mentioned above.
No lights working in the washing up area so couldn't wash up after dark as couldn't see. Also, no bin there which would be handy to put sink scum in, otherwise people just left it in the sink

Atrações locais

Marwell Zoo (five minutes' drive) has over 140 different species to admire – you can also leave the car back at base and stroll over (about 20 minutes) for a pedestrian safari. Paultons Park (25 minutes' drive) is another perennial fave for family-oriented days out – here you can meet Peppa Pig, crash down log flumes or opt for wanders through a dinosaur-filled forest. The South Downs National Park has some truly splendid hiking trails, including the 100-mile-long South Downs Way (the trail starts 15 minutes down the road in Winchester). Mountain bikers also have plenty to choose from around these parts – an exhilarating bike track through the woods is on hand in the nearby village of Bishopstoke (10 minutes). The gorgeous New Forest National Park (25 minutes) is also within easy reach, and one of the best ways to get around is by open-top tour bus. There are three routes to choose from – it all comes down to whether you prefer vistas of heather-covered heathland or coastal explores. Speaking of the sea, beaches like Lepe and Highcliffe Castle (both 40 minutes) are very much worth the journey (make sure to pack jelly shoes and a towel if at all tempted).
