Vidoeiro Gerês Camping

is in the northeast part of the Minho region, the area around the Minho river that runs along part of the Portuguese/Spanish border. Mountainous and rivery activities are to be had here, as this part of Portugal is between both the Serra da Peneda and the Serra do Gerês, and accessible to the Lima and Cávado rivers. Hiking, biking and a heap of wildlife and nature are in the Peneda-Gerês National Park: look out for roe deer, birds of prey, wolves and many flavours of tree, and bring the camera/ charge the smartphone, as the scenery here is ruddy spectacular. Less than an hour's drive away and in the heart of Minho is the ancient city of Braga, full of old buildings and monuments from Neolithic to modern, and 90 minutes away is the city of Porto, the second biggest in Portugal and with one of the oldest city centres in Europe.
