Agricamping Terra del Sole

The city of Syracuse is a must-visit: a 20-minute drive from Terra del Sole, its historical centre is full of spectacular architecture and archaeological wonders. There’s plenty to do here, but if you only have time for a few stops make your way to the Greek theatre, the Roman Ruins and Dionysius’ Ear at Neapolis Archaeological Park, explore the island of Ortigia, then head to the Azienda Agricola Pupillo winery for tours and tastings. Noto, a city 25 minutes from the site, is another well worth visiting. Stunning churches and cathedrals – including the Basilica San Salvatore, St Nicholas Cathedral and Chiesa Santa Chiara – crowd the streets, and the Ducezio Palace and Baroque 18th-century Palazzo Nicolaci nearly cry out for exploration. Stepping away from the urban and back into nature, Terra del Sole is around half an hour from Cavagrande del Cassible, a nature reserve that follows the canyon of the Cassibile river. The reserve is crisscrossed with pathways and first timers might want to start with Scala Cruci, which will bring you to the canyon lakes – but beware, it can be steep. Terra del Sole is 25 minutes from the Oasis of Vendicari Nature Reserve, where you can follow the paths, have a go at snorkelling or birdwatching, or stroll along some of Italy’s award-winning beaches.
