What could be more typical of the French countryside than a stay surrounded by vineyards and sunflower fields? And that’s what you’ll get at Bellevues Glamping and Camping, a peaceful rural spot in the Charente-Maritime – one of the sunniest regions of south-west France – with several acres of private grounds to explore (bring your dogs to join you on your explorations) and hilltop views across the vines to admire. This peaceful place is somewhere to sunbathe, rest in a shady spot with a favourite book, or bring a sketchpad to try and capture the landscape on paper. Cool off in the pool, stroll around the grounds, witness spectacular sunrises… then after dark, gaze up at the starry skies on clear nights – after a couple of days, you’ll almost certainly be completely chilled. There’s accommodation to match all styles of camping – and all pockets – and you have direct access to walks and cycle rides on quiet country roads past fields of vines, taking in the sleepy village of Mérignac (10 minutes on foot, five minutes by bike). If you need to top up the foodie supplies, head for Montendre (15 minutes’ drive), a small market town with shops for all your essentials, a weekly produce market (Thursdays, with night markets on Tuesday during July and August) and a scattering of restaurants and wine caves in which to sample the local vintages.

Polubione We had a fantastic time at this campsite, thanks to the exceptional care and kindness of Richard and Linda. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality made all the difference.
The facilities were spotless and well maintained, and we were especially impressed by how quickly everything was back in perfect condition—even the swimming pool—just the morning after a storm! Everything was truly fit for purpose, making our stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful and well-run campsite with hosts who truly care and will be back there soon (from Paris).

Niepolubione Public access to the surrounding woods and lakes was restricted due to fire risk! Stayed at the site the whole time = enough fun!

Polubione We were really lucky to find this site. What a little gem! We were looking for somewhere relaxing where we could just enjoy the sun and unwind. From the moment we arrived we felt like we had found paradise. This place has a very homely feel to it and the kids felt safe and happy spending their days in the pool or playing ping pong. Linda and Richard are very welcoming and really made us feel at home. The surrounding views are beautiful. Bordeaux was easily accessible on the train if you wanted to fit a city day in and take in some more sights. The pool is well kept and the facilities were very clean. The tuck shop was an added bonus, where you could pick up an ice cream or a cold beer. We would definitely return again and even treat ourselves to a stay in one of the lovely glamping tents. We stayed for 6 days and would have stayed longer. Thank you for a fabulous stay !

Polubione As soon as we arrived, we received a fabulous welcome and very informative - everything was explained clearly and we were made to feel at home.

Pitches are sizable and very well maintained, not overcrowded and very much a family feel. The whole site was fabulously clean.

We took several walks around the local area and whilst the surrounding area is quiet, it was pretty - so many vineyards!

We are at a local restaurant recommended by Linda, Chez Gigi, and it was lovely.

The honesty shop was a welcome addition, serving beers and ice creams. Perfect on hot day!

Niepolubione Our only suggestion is that one toilet and one shower is not quite enough.

Polubione Lovely quiet site (only 7 pitches and a static caravan), with very welcoming lovely hosts. Good recommendations for dinner in the area. Very peaceful among vineyards and fields. Very clean pool and bathroom facilities (1 shower and 1 toilet but didn’t really need to queue at all as not many pitches). Best site of our holiday :)

For those who are keen to explore the Charente-Maritime on two wheels, the Galope Chopine Greenway passes through Chantillac (10 minutes’ drive) and provides easy cycling for families. Other kid-centric expeditions could include a trip to Mysterra, Parc des Labyrinthes à Montendre (45 minutes by bike) for interactive games in the woodland, or the Maison de la Forêt (40 minutes) in Haute-Saintonge Forest, which has themed displays on local wildlife and views across the woodland from its observation tower. Families looking for leisurely downtime together can spend the day floating on the lazy river and shooting down slides at Les Antilles de Jonzac waterpark, or stop by at the multimedia exhibits on the future of energy at the Maison de l’Energie – Espace FRANCE Rénov (both 20 minutes’ drive). For jaunts into photogenic towns, Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire (25 minutes) is packed with striking 15th-century mansions and châteaux.
