There's rather a brilliant pool at Camping Les Brillas in the Loire Valley between Brittany and the Vendée – it's covered and heated to cope with all weathers, but if ever you tire of dips in here, you'll find a rather brilliant beach (with equally brilliant shore fishing) at Les Moutiers-en-Retz only about a kilometre away. (This is ancient salt marsh land too for those who want to tramp around inland for a spot of wildlife watching.) As well as that pool, this friendly site is well set up for relaxed stays amid its woodland setting, with a play area, a mini farm, a TV room and a restaurant and café as well as a grocery shop. Evening entertainment is laid on for all ages and activities for les enfants by day and evening in July and August: might this keep them busy while the grownups have another wallow around the Brillas pool…? Amenities on site include a toilet block with a washing-up area, a launderette, disabled facilities and a drying room, and wifi access.

Polubione The pool, the employees (very friendly and helpful 😁 ). The pitches allowed privacy and were large. Toilets and showers were spotless. Great value for money.

Niepolubione Our pitch had a large patch of bare earth in the middle.
Late night entertainment/band very loud and went on after 11 pm (late for younger children - other guests I'm sure enjoyed the show).
Swimming pool rule about men having to wear tight trunks meant we couldn't use this facility as my son won't wear them. I know this rule isn't unusual in France but I'm not sure I really see the point of it and it was disappointing for us nonetheless.

The whole team on site. Lovely people, good times. Good Clean, working toilets…

Polubione Indoor swimming pool lovely. Location to Moutier-en-Retz. Lovely easy cycle rides around the whole area. Beach close by (although sea is brown from silt - very clean but just be aware it’s brown). Lovely village and if you like shells you can collect loads on the beaches, fun fishing huts to look at on bike rides.

Clean and nice shower area. Friendly reception. Good reasonable food in snack bar.

Niepolubione The noise levels are quite high. The type of families that stay here when I was there were large French groups who were really nice during the day but did not seem to understand the rules on being quiet at night or in the morning. I asked to move pitch as there were some quieter ones but I was told there was no space when clearly there was. The teenage kids were not great to my kids on the playground area either.

There was a kids club but if your kids don’t speak French they won’t be able to join in. I didn’t mind that as my kids didn’t want to join but if your kids would like to and don’t speak French they will find it difficult.

4.5 out of 5 site, clean facilities helpful staff.

From Nantes, take the D723 then the D751, direction Pornic, then follow the D213 east. After the intersection with the D66, take the third right then take the second left, onto Route du Bois des Tréans. From there take the second left, onto Les Brillas and you will see the campsite.

Lokalne atrakcje

This lovely land is among the old salt marshes of Les Moutiers-en-Retz, close to the coast, and near Loire-Atlantique countryside days around vineyards, hiking trails and traditional French villages. The seaside is close by for shore fishing, coastal walks and strolls along the beachfront: as well as the several lovely beaches within easy reach, the Camping Les Brillas team particularly recommends the fishing port of Le Collet and the towns of La Bernerie-en-Retz and Pornic. Planète Sauvage, the zoological park with about 1000 critters from 150 species, is a considerate 25 kilometres away at Port St Père and also comes highly recommended; further afield at an hour and a half's drive but oh so very much worth the trip is the fably bizarre medieval theme park Puy du Fou.
