You may be the type who likes your holidays full of waves and watersports or occupied with lapping up an ice cream on the shore. If so, there’s plenty of choice around there… perhaps wild and remote Traeth Ynys y Fydlyn (10 minutes’ drive), which has views out to the Skerries Lightouse and a few caves scattered around? Maybe you rather like the sound of somewhere with plenty of rockpooling that can be accessed on foot. Porth Trwyn (50 minutes’ walk) is a fitting option for that. Holyhead (20 minutes’ drive) is further on and has more in the way of watersports and wildlife spotting boat tours, as well as a scenic stretch of coastal path. Away from the sand, historic Anglesey sights include the Beaumaris Castle (40 minutes), a huge unfinished medieval castle, and Plas Newydd House and Gardens (35 minutes), a National Trust location. The latter has art murals, a military museum and historic rooms that include a music room, marquess’ study and saloon.
