Get out onto the lake for watersports, bask on its beach or have a dip under the French sun, all within five kilometres of base at the nature reserve and Lac de Léon. For ocean dips, the team recommends Vielle-Saint-Girons or the beach at Moliets. Loads more is around to do in the Camping Landes Sud surroundings: if you're a hiker or a cyclist, make for Landes Forest, the biggest maritime pine forest in Europe and ablaze with different colours throughout the seasons. More cycling and hiking can be had at the Courant d'Huchet nature reserve, joining Lac de Léon to the Atlantic. For town day tripping, visit St-Michel-Escalus surrounded by woodland, Dax with its festivals, Seignosse Mont-de-Marsan, Hossegor, Biscarrosse, Capbreton and Mimizan. The cuisine of the region should be thoroughly investigated too: try asparagus mousseline or a Landes salad with a slice of foie gras; millas from the north; Landes pastis with crème anglaise or apple tourtière with Armagnac flambé, all washed down with local wines like Tursan, Côteaux de Chalosse and vins des sables.
