Charlie Bassetts, a family-friendly site in the grounds of a fab pub (closed on Mondays) serving up homemade food and tasty ales, is a place many of the smart folk who’ve visited quite rightly deem a hidden gem. See for yourself by settling down at this destination in Dilhorne, 20 minutes from the rides at one of Britain’s best theme parks, Alton Towers, and the aquatic antics at Waterworld. It's in an easy-access section of Staffordshire, just off the A50 road and 15 minutes' drive from Stoke-on-Trent. Popular Peak District towns like Buxton (25 minutes) and Bakewell (an hour) are easy to get to too. Rather roams over rollercoasters? Potter through the Peak District (25 minutes) – there are plenty of pretty paths over yonder as well as closer to the site if you’d rather not drive. Ambles are to be had in the grounds too, over by the farm animals or to the play area, where mums and dads are regularly seen supervising the kids in front of a scenic background. When the tiddlers start to get peckish, stroll over to the inn for food. The pub is open from lunchtime till late every day but Monday (there are no breakfasts available). And what about those essential amenities of life? The site has separate ladies' and gents' toilet blocks with showers, as well as a washing-up area.

Clean and modern toilet blocks.
Very friendly staff.
Brilliant pub with a well organised open mic night on the Friday, we didn't get chance to eat but the food looked incredible.

Likte: Definitely will be going back to Charlie’s. From 1st arrival to leaving was treated with a smile. Hospitality was another level great on site public house. And then to top it had an outdoor dance music festival on the gardens with bbq and outdoor bar. Was told different festivals are planned throughout the year. So keep looking out for them on facebook. The only thing I’d recommend is to book your meals in the restaurant when booking your stay as it’s obviously that good for food it was fully booked all weekend but obviously the bbq was brilliant and managed to get into 2 of the other local pubs for meals for the other 2 nights. So to end. I’d like tho thank Kev and his team for a great weekend had by all. See you next time.

Likte: Great site, convenient for us but worth travelling for. New toilet and showers. On site pub has great entertainment and friendly staff we didn’t try the food because they were fully booked, but it looked really nice. Saturday was another level festival vibe's, DJ, outdoor catering and bar. Well done to Kev and the gang.

Likte: Lovely friendly little family run site and pub. Beautiful new shower block which was kept squeaky clean. Beautiful countryside views. Easy walks to nearby villages and pubs. Very warm welcome at Charlie's pub, full of locals and campers and a nice outdoor area. Lots of good ale and delicious food. An absolute find!

Likte: Large well spaced level pitches. Beautiful views over farmland. Lovely, clean, warm well kept shower and toilet facilities. Helpful staff gave a warm welcome. Pub serving hearty food right next door.

Likte: Second time we've visited this site and we'll definitely return. The staff there are spot on, and the facilities can't be faulted. It's really nice having the little pub on site, and it's always welcoming. As we were staying they were building an impressive looking extension to their outdoor bar area, which looks nice. Can't comment on the wifi because we had full signal there so just used our hotspot as we prefer to do, anyway. But all facilities of the pitches were great. This is a great location if you have little ones to get to Trentham (gardens and monkey forest) or Cbeebies at Alton Towers.

This is an ace base for trips to Alton Towers (20 minutes’ drive) for folk who fancy riding rollercoasters like the Nemesis and Oblivion. Spend one day scampering among the top-class attractions here, then slow things down the next with countryside explores. The Peak District National Park (around 25 minutes) is full of walking paths, while other spots like Trentham Gardens (20 minutes) are top for traipsing round too. If checking out cheeky creatures is more your bag, head to Trentham Monkey Forest (20 minutes) and wander among the free-roaming animals. Around 140 Barbary macaques live in the woodlands and meadows here – make sure to look up and spot them swinging through the trees. Once you’ve snapped pics of the primates, set your sights on some of the market towns scattered around the area. Stone, a settlement on the Trent and Mersey Canal (15 minutes), is well-regarded for its food and drink options, while Cheadle (55 minutes), just outside the wood-covered Churnet Valley and the scenic Staffordshire Moorlands, is worth stopping in too.
