Ah, the Alentejo area – what a glorious spot for a holiday, with lovely rural scenery all around and a tasty spread of local food and wine to try out while you’re here. Pick a pitch at Parque de Campismo Rural Lapa dos Gaivões, 10 minutes’ drive from Arronches, and you’ll be in a prime position to soak up all the many delights of this fabulous area. This site is located within the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, so it’s a peaceful place with easy access to things like walking trails, birdwatching spots and river beaches where you can swim or launch canoes. Life on site is pretty laidback, with guests staying on large pitches that measure more than 100 square metres each (giving you plenty of room to spread out) and are surrounded by all sorts of trees (cherry, pine, pomegranate and plum trees among them). The trees keep everything refreshingly cool in summer, and there’s also a swimming pool on site where you can take a cooling dip. Facilities at this park have been well thought out – guests have access to a washing machine, a wifi service and modern bathrooms with hot showers, baby changing facilities and an accessible bathroom. A stay in this area simply demands that you try as much local cuisine as possible – things like local sausages, cheeses, soups and fish dishes are essential parts of the Alto Alentejo experience. The nearest village, Esperança, is two kilometres away and a good place to find shops and cafés/restaurants that will give you a good taste of the area.

Ik was blij met: Beautiful tranquil area. Asthetic layout of site with beautiful plants and flowers tended by camp owner. Exceptionally clean toilets and showers with very hot water at all times. Camp owners very friendly, goes out of his way for everyone. Reception has cold drinks, beer available. Washing machine available and swimming pool as well. Cave paintings 1 mile walk- gorgeous. Nearby village also accessible by walking which has a gorgeous outdoor cafe and 2 small mini supermarkets. Bigger town - Arronches- you need a vehicle to get there.
If you want site wifi you need to be pitched closer to reception.

Ik was blij met: Camping dans la nature, au calme, vraiment sympa, avec de grands emplacements.
Très accueillant.
Sanitaires très propres, avec de l'eau chaude, au top !
Campagne environnante très jolie avec de superbes randonnées.

Ik was blij met: All of it - a small site with brilliant facilities. The pitches are a decent size and there are facilities for motorhomes. The showers are roomy and kept very clean. The couple who run the site are friendly and helpful, if you want freshly baked bread he will go into the village and get it for you nice and early. There are some really pretty walks near the site and lots of medieval buildings not too far away.

Ik was blij met: Dieser Campingplatz ist wirklich mehr als zu empfehlen! Wahnsinnig nette Betreiber, die jederzeit für Tipps und Hilfe bereitstehen. Zudem die saubersten Sanitäranlagen, die ich auf einem Campingplatz bisher gesehen habe. Auch ist es sehr ruhig und man hört nur die Natur und die Tiere außen herum. Wunderschöne Wanderwege rund um den Campingplatz gibt es ebenfalls. Perfekt um im Grünen zur Ruhe zu kommen. Ich würde jederzeit wiederkommen!

Ik was blij met: The whole site. Only small but quiet and very relaxing. Booked one night then stayed extra night. Toilets and showers immaculate as were emdishwashing facilities. The owner was brilliant on hand all day very helpful

Ik was blij met: Friendly helpful owners, bought fresh bread every morning to our camper and allowed us to pick the beautiful oranges and lemons from the trees. Spotlessly clean shower/loo block. Good showers without those annoying push buttons!
We went a little further afield to find a campsite as early in the season. So glad we did as loved this area, so pretty with wild flowers everywhere after all the rain. Beautiful

This is an area where you’ll be able to get out into the open air for all sorts of countryside activities – ask on site and they’ll point you towards walking and bike trails, birdwatching spots, places to launch canoes or places where you can find ancient rock paintings. You’ll be able to drop in on a few wineries as you explore the area too – some local ones will be open for a tasting, but for a more in-depth experience you may like to head to Adega Mayor (25 minutes’ drive), where you can take a tour with tastings and options for a picnic or tapas lunch. If you need a little pick-me-up after that, how about dropping into the nearby Centro de Ciência do Café (25 minutes) to learn all about coffee? Among the area’s historic visits are places like the Castle of Alegrete (25 minutes), the town of Elvas (40 minutes), with its ancient walls, huge aqueduct and Forte de Santa Luzia, and the ruins of the Roman city of Ammaia (45 minutes).
