Yes, we’re talking about Tara’s Tent, a timber-built safari tent in its own exclusive-use garden and 10 minutes’ drive from seaside Fuseta, on the Algarve coast.
Spacious and airy, the tent has its own ensuite bathroom with a shower, plus a luxurious kingsize double bed (everything provided, including towels). There’s plenty of room for cuddling up on the cosy sofa, as well as an indoor dining area with table and chairs. Books and games are on hand in case you should tire of looking at the views.
Outside in the paved garden, there are sun loungers for lazing next to the pool, and a barbecue for rustling up alfresco repasts. All the cooking utensils you need for outdoor living are supplied too, in the outdoor kitchen with fridge and cooker.
You can pick up stuff for the barbecue in Fuseta, which has a plenty of food shops, an excellent fish market and a choice of seafront bars and cafés. But on clear nights, there’s only one place you should try and be: and that’s on the wooden decking of your comfy safari tent, gazing up in awe at the stars.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden
Intricate mosaics and decorative sculptures hint at the aristocratic nature of the Roman Ruins of Milreu (15 minutes’ drive). A large area of excavations reveals centuries of occupation. In addition to a large villa, there is a Roman temple that was originally erected in the 4th century and later adapted for Christian and Islamic worship.
The swimming pond at Salinas do Grelha (20 minutes) is so rich in minerals from the neighbouring saltworks that you’ll be able to float effortlessly, much like in the Dead Sea. After a relaxing float (with added mud, if you like), you can take a tour of the facilities or spy on the seabirds that thrive in this saline environment.
South of Faro, the vast Ria Formosa Natural Park (half an hour) includes islands, lagoons and salt marshes that provide a home to a large number of nesting and wintering birds, from swamphens to white storks. Lucky observers might also catch a glimpse of otters and beech martens.
