Sometimes you just need to be far from the madding crowds, and that’s definitely what you are at Camping Les Trouillères, a peaceful family-friendly site sitting on the Ardèche River in the spectacular Rhônes-Alpes. The handful of pitches are partially shaded under a canopy of trees, so you’ll all stay nicely cool in the summer heat, and of course, you can always refresh with dips in the river from the small beach. Don’t expect entertainment for the kids, because this is not that sort of place at all. It’s somewhere where you can slow right down, chill in the sun and reconnect with the outdoor life. Kids can have a game or two of ping-pong, or you can all paddle downstream in canoes provided by the site owners, who know their region inside out and are happy to help with any sightseeing information and hiking advice. Handy facilities include a communal barbecue and picnic tables, where you can get together with friends old and new to chat about your day. If you need to replenish your groceries, there are a couple of shops in Vallon-Pont-d’Arc (15 minutes’ drive).

  • Minderjarigen (18-) dienen te worden vergezeld door een ouder en/of officiële voogd.
  • Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan (zoals de pitbullterriër, tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro). Ook de volgende rassen zijn niet welkom: de staffordshire-bulterriër, Amerikaanse staffordshireterriër, rottweiler en mastiff.

  • Honden zijn niet toegestaan als je verblijft in de accommodaties.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

As well as all the activities on the Ardèche River that you can access directly from the site, the southern Ardèche is a hub for hiking, cycling and climbing adventures in the spectacular Ardèche Gorges (15 minutes’ drive). You can paddle under the majestic limestone Pont-d’Arc (20 minutes) as it spans the river, and stop off for a picnic on the small beach nearby. If one ravine wasn’t enough, you can also hike, swim, fish and canoe in the Chassezac Gorges (50 minutes), but if you’d like a challenging yomp closer to base camp, a trail on the Cirque de Gens cliffs (15 minutes) lead to a viewpoint over a dramatic meander in the Ardèche. The cute hilltop village of Sampzon (five minutes) is worth a squint, and there are loads of other pretty settlements to discover locally. Gorgeously higgledy-piggledy Labeaume (15 minutes) clings to the cliffside above the River Beaume, while the medieval cottages of Vogüé (25 minutes, one of the ‘most beautiful villages in France’) are all overlooked by a handsome castle.
