Calling all golf fans who’d like to try something a little bit different… you’ll be among like-minded folk at Putting Golf des Flandres, where you can spend the night right there at a Nord-Pas-de-Calais golf course. Yes indeed, that means you can roll pretty much straight out of bed and onto the golf course if you like. In fact, this is not a traditional golf course but a putting-golf course, which is somewhere between mini golf and a full course and a fun way for both experts and beginners to hone their skills. Of course, there’s more to this place than just the golf – not least its handy location just off the D916, which means easy getting out and about to places like Lille, Dunkirk and the Caps et Marais d’Opale Regional Natural Park. Closer to home are the towns of Saint-Sylvestre-Cappel (10 minutes’ walk), which has several places to eat, and Steenvorde (10 minutes’ drive), which has a large supermarket. Facilities on site include a bar and a café where you can get your day off to a good start with a tasty breakfast; there’s also a barbecue provided for cooking your outdoor meals. Those who aren’t into golf can sign up for a massage, take a walk to the nearby Jardin des Fées or head out to explore some of the area’s braderies (antique markets). There are composting toilets on site, but take note that there are no shower facilities.

Ik was blij met: Couldn’t have had a friendlier welcome for our first trip in a van to France. Greg and Elise were super friendly and great company. Didn’t feel embarrassed to try my beginners French. We shared a beer and conversation in the bar.

Compost loo. Fresh water access on request. If nobody booked in lodge, also access to showers. Tents and small campervans only.

Would love to come back in warmer weather for some putting-golf !

Ik was blij met: Wonderful host and beautiful site. Quiet and peaceful. Excellent value for money. This is wild camping - there is no EHU and just basic toilet facilities, but we loved it and will be back

Ik was blij met: Nice location in a peaceful area. Brilliant if getting off the Ferry and needing a 1 night stay. Owner was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for him.

Ik was niet zo blij met: As stated in the advert, no electric, no water, no toilets and no shower facilities we could access.

Van de manager: Bonjour ! Pourquoi cet avis ? Vous avez loué un emplacement sans électricité ! En hiver donc forcément moins agréable ! Avez vous demandé l'accès aux saunas et aux commandités douches et autres ? Il y a des toilettes sèches à disposition !!!!

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

One of the excellent things about this location is that it allows you access to both France and Belgium, hopping across the nearby border to take advantage of attractions on both sides. That’s particularly true of the World War I museums and memorials, which are plentiful in both countries – if you only have time for one, make it the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres (half an hour’s drive). Dunkirk (half an hour) is another place that’s got wartime museums to visit – this time from World War II – but it’s also got a lovely long sandy beach for family days out. For more of the local natural landscapes, head into the Caps et Marais d’Opale Regional Natural Park; Saint-Omer (half an hour) is the place to go, for a tour of the Maison de Marais and one of the many boat trips heading out through the wetlands. For a bit of city time, take a trip to Lille (35 minutes), starting at La Grand Place and taking in sights such as La Vieille Bourse and Citadelle or visiting places like the Palais des Beaux Arts and Lille Zoo.
