Donkey milk cosmetics, anyone? How about the option of relaxing massages, breakfasts and evening meals of local produce delivered to your door in little wicker baskets to enjoy among a peaceful rural setting in the Bresse Jura? Thought so.
Hugged snugly by the Jura Massif, La Charrette Bleue is a peaceful wildlife haven on a cosy little farmstead in Burgundy, with splendid views out over the surrounding countryside in Le Deschaux, 20 minutes' drive from the historic town of Dole.
To maximise space for all those holiday clothes you're inevitably going to over-pack with, leave your cosmetics back at home – instead, try out Catherine's handcrafted organic donkey-milk lotions and soaps; guided tours of the farm are organised during the summer season, and your host will enthusiastically deliver detailed explanations around the benefits of using her products while showing you around her swell little countryside cosmetics lab.
Aside from the donkey milk products, massage is a big thing here: book yourself in for a foot massage, a facial or a traditional Thai massage with the site's certified masseuse, Claude: he masterfully employs Catherine's carefully concocted organic donkey-milk creams and lotions which, being packed with mineral salts and vitamins, are spot on if you're skin's of a slightly sensitive nature.
Naturellement, you’ll probably want to partake in a few rounds of pétanque during your stay, if only to break up all that relaxing and feasting you'll be doing; walks and bike rides around the countryside are also highly recommended for when you feel the need to burn off a few of those holiday cals, and long lounges on your flower-filled private terrace are insisted upon.
Barbecues are allowed, but for times when you feel ready to relinquish the tongs, book yourself in for an evening around the grill at the site's cosy Finnish kota hut; alternatively, you can choose to have a basket of homemade regional cuisine delivered right to your door. The same goes for breakfast – a hamper filled with fresh organic local cheeses, fruit juice, milk, hot drinks and more can be pre-ordered to set you up nicely for long days of relaxing and sightseeing.
Beds are made ready for your arrival, decked out in quilts and comfy linens for maximum glamping splendour, and you'll have use of your own private bathroom throughout your stay.

In this smashing countryside setting hiking, cycling and mountain biking expeditions right from the farm are a cinch, and the Jura lakes and mountains that lie around the land are within easy reach too.
For a good splash of family fun, the shoots, flumes and wave machines of Aquaparc Isis are less than 20 minutes' drive away, and grownups can head out for hazy days of wine tasting around the vineyards of Burgundy and the Jura.
A mere 20-minute drive will bring you to the lovely little town of Dole, on the Doubs river, for a sterling day trip out; start at the town centre and make your way across the river for a splendid view of the church, looking out across the town and its rouge rooftops. Beaune, Dijon and Lons-le-Saunier are all well worth a visit too.
