Perhaps you’ve done the spectacular attractions of Spit and Dubrovnik, and now you’re looking for a quiet site at which to catch your breath and chill? Camp Lu-Ka could suit you very well indeed. Tucked under shady trees, this laidback, family-friendly site is set on a narrow strip of land between the Adriatic Sea and Lake Vrana at Pakoštane in central Dalmatia.
The site is about 100 metres’ walk from pebbled Plaža Janice Beach, where there is a volleyball court for your more energetic moments. Your four-legged chums are welcome at Camp Lu-Ka too, and they can stretch their paws or have a paddle on the designated dog beach about the same distance away.
You have everything you need close at hand: a large supermarket (five minutes’ drive) on the outskirts of Pakoštane for replenishing supplies, and seafront restaurants and bars five minutes’ stroll away. There’s also a mini-marina to potter around – from where day cruises to the Kornati Islands depart – and a scattering of tourist shops, both reached in about 10 minutes on foot.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden
As well as watersports rentals along the seafront promenade, Pakoštane is springboard to the island archipelago of Kornati National Park, where you can swim and snorkel in pristine waters; day trips depart from the marina (10 minutes’ walk) and you may be lucky enough to spot dolphins on your cruise.
With peaceful mountain views, freshwater Lake Vrana (five minutes) is circumnavigated by a bike path. Several bird hides are found on boardwalks around its shores so you can watch grebes, coots and other wading birds feeding. The lake is also a popular spot for carp and pike fishing, but you’ll need to hire a small boat or kayak and stay away from the shoreline to protect the birds.
When the kids need a bit of action, head for Dalmaland theme park (five minutes’ drive) for some fun on the rollercoasters and water rides. Everyone will also enjoy the chance to swim in the pool at the foot of the spectacular waterfalls in Krka National Park (40 minutes).
