Ready for a bit of relaxation in a remote rural location? Take yourselves along to Fazenda São Matheus, a peaceful site in the Santa Catarina countryside about 15 minutes' drive from the town of Lauro Muller.
The pitches here are part of a farm, and you’ll get the full experience when you stay on site. Horses, pigs, cows, chickens, dogs and cats are among the residents, and guests are welcome to spend some time interacting with the animals if they wish. The farm also has some space dedicated to growing organic strawberries – they're available to buy on site in season, so you'll be able to taste them at their very best.
Those sweet strawberries may well be a highlight, but they're not the only foods available to buy on site – the owners also have a range of seasonal fruit and veg available throughout the year along with bread, jams, snacks and risotto jars for an easy meal. There's also a simple option for breakfast as you can order a picnic-style breakfast basket to get your day off to a tasty start.
The owners here pride themselves on providing a safe and clean environment for their guests, with simple facilities including a covered kitchen area, bathrooms (with hot showers) and a playground. There's also plenty of space to chill out and take in the views – and what views they are, as the site is on the banks of the Oratório river with the Serra do Rio do Rastro making a rather lovely mountain backdrop.

Minderjarigen (18-) dienen te worden vergezeld door een ouder en/of officiële voogd.- Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan (zoals de pitbullterriër, tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro). Ook de volgende rassen zijn niet welkom: de staffordshire-bulterriër, Amerikaanse staffordshireterriër, rottweiler en mastiff.
- Het wordt gasten geadviseerd om een zaklantaarn van goede kwaliteit mee te nemen, omdat delen van het terrein onverlicht zijn.

Once you’ve gazed up at the mountain views from your pitch, how about setting off for a closer look? The Serra do Rio do Rastro (40 minutes' drive) is a fabulous place to hike, and there are plenty of other scenic spots nearby to visit too, including Barrinha Falls (affectionately known as ‘Cascade Barry', 45 minutes) and craggy Cânion das Laranjeiras (an hour).
While you’re touring the area, you may also like to stop in at Our Lady of Lourdes Cave (two hours), a natural feature that's also an atmospheric religious site now. With Santa Catarina being an emerging wine-growing area, there are also several places around where you can see vines and sample the wares. And perhaps you’d also like to try out the local honey at Meliponário Rio do Rastro (15 minutes)?
Meanwhile, for a cool day out, head to the outdoor pools, waterslides and play areas of Balneário Godinho (20 minutes) – there are plenty of loungers and sheltered areas where parents can relax while the kids splash around in the water too.
