When it comes to cliff-top locations, Castle Bay Holiday and Residential Park has got it well-and-truly sorted. Less than 20 minutes’ walk along the coastal path from the postcard-pretty village of Portpatrick in Dumfries and Galloway, the hardstanding pitches here have spectacular views over Dunskey Castle and the Irish Sea at Castle Bay. This peaceful, family-run and family-friendly holiday park has well-maintained facilities to keep you all comfortable, and it makes a smashing base for exploring the scenic coastline and surrounding countryside on foot, bike or by car. The owners are also on hand to give you the inside info on local shops, restaurants and pubs. Access to the site is via a secured gate, so you and yours will always be safe and secure at Castle Bay. All you need to do is relax, enjoy those sea views and perhaps have a gentle wander down to a harbour-side pub in Portpatrick.

Ik was blij met: Fantastic view from pitch. Facilities clean. Nice walk via coastal path into Portpatrick.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Pitch very far from level. Facilities very small for size of site and a distance from the touring pitches. No recycling facilities. No Wifi and phone signal poor

Ik was blij met: John gave us a very warm welcome. Campsite was gorgeous and clean with good facilities, short walk away from lovely Portpatrick village. Would return.

Ik was blij met: Views were exquisite. Staff very friendly. Beautiful part of the country.
Town within walking distance.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Felt like the pitches were on the small side. You could here your neighbours conversations.
Rubbish dump to the rear of pitches full of old wood.
It would have been nice to have some grass next to your pitch to sit out on.
Elsan was a hole in the ground next to static vans instead of near the touring pitches.

Ik was blij met: Beautiful location and walks with stunning views. Toilets and showers very clean and warm. Water at dish washing station could be warmer.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Bins overflowing and birds had got at them. No recycling options so took that home.

Ik was blij met: The amazing view from my pitch over the Irish sea to Northern Ireland and the castle ruins. The toilets were lovely and clean and modern. Great friendly welcome from the owner. Well looked after site.

Ik was blij met: Really great site with fantastic views of the Irish sea and dunskey castle.
Shower block was clean and well maintained.
Great little walk into portpatrick along the coastal path

Ik was niet zo blij met: Fresh water tap, grey waste and chemical waste weren't too close to the motorhome pitches. Located near the touring caravan and static caravans as was the toilet/shower block.

Ik was blij met: The rugged coastline is wonderful and the walks around the area are amazing. The walk into Portpatrick takes about 20 minutes where you can encounter cliff birds nesting and a look around Dunskey castle. Portpatrick itself is a beautiful , chilled place to visit with loads of opportunities to have a nice lunch and possibly a drink or two. Castle bay site manager John and his team will go above and beyond to help you. I had a fuse blow in my motorhome on the first night and was without heating and lighting. John arrived first thing in the morning with a heater, a lamp and a replacement cable. A true legend.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

Take a stroll through the lush waterside plantings at Logan Botanic Garden (half an hour’s drive), where – thanks to the warming presence of the Gulf Stream – palms and eucalyptus trees thrive, while loch-side walks at Castle Kennedy Gardens (25 minutes) lead to the photogenic ruins of a castle and swathes of colourful rhododendrons (the latter in spring). When the kids need a relaxing run around in the fresh Scottish air, take them to Agnew Park (15 minutes) for go-karting, boating and expeditions aboard a mini train. There are walking and cycling trails for all abilities in Galloway Forest Park (45 minutes), where you could also surprise youngsters with feeding the goats at the Wild Goat Park (50 minutes). There are golf courses and fishing lakes within half an hour’s drive, and if you hit an odd rainy day (this being south-west Scotland), pay a visit to the fighter jets in their hangars at Stoneykirk Aviation Museum (15 minutes).
