Paxton House Caravan Park

Ik was blij met A wonderful spot in the walled garden with generous pitches and a delightful sense of tranquillity. The freedom to walk in the grounds of Paxton House when visitors have gone home is a huge bonus. It felt like a real privilege. No Wi-Fi but a really good mobile signal - and who needs it anyway in such a lovely spot? This could be our best site ever … but currently falls short.
We would love to come back but only with certain flaws fixed (see below).

Ik was niet blij met The loo was out of action and, according to the notice on the door, had been so since April. We visited in October! I know there is a UK-wide shortage of plumbers but this is ridiculous. There is a functioning loo/shower presumably for disabled use but it meant queues, even though the site was half empty. There is a confusion about the facilities on this site. Pitch Up says there aren’t any but Paxton’s own website says there are. We checked when we visited the house last year and they were clearly functioning. Frankly, had we known the current situation, we would have gone elsewhere. Incidentally, on the fourth day without hand soap, I drove into Berwick and bought some for general use. You don’t have to be a microbiologist to understand what happens to cistern and door handles on an overused facility where no one can clean their hands! Incidentally, we never saw a member of staff in all the time we were there.

Ik was blij met Beautiful grounds, friendly staff.
We attended a car show while there which was a fantastic way to spend our afternoon in the grounds.
We love the walled garden for the campsite.. so peaceful & pretty with the fruit trees around the walls. We come here a few times a year as it’s such lovely place.

Ik was niet blij met One of the 2 toilets has been out of order for a long time. I realise they don’t advertise they have toilets as they are really there as an extra/ disabled toilet but they are well used so inconvenient when only 1 available.
Also, no dish wash area & I wouldn’t fancy using the wet room shower.

MH grey water empty point and drinking water of which no mention of this on web site .
Shower / toilet facility is there but web says not ?

Ik was blij met New hedges and trees, apples and pears. Peace and quiet.

Ik was blij met We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and hope to return soon for a longer stay.

Ik was niet blij met The booking system; not being able to telephone to arrange a stay at short notice as we are not always able to access an internet connection.

Ik was blij met Well laid out, spacious pitches with plenty room to next pitch.

Very quiet.

Ik was niet blij met Shame the non-handicapped toilet / shower appeared to be locked due to requiring a repair. Not completed during our week stay.

Poor signage as to where to park for check in.

Ik was blij met Easy to find. Beautiful setting in the walled garden and the grounds of Paxton Hall are calm and quiet. They have a cosy tea room/cafe which is very reasonably priced. As it was the end of the season there were only 3 pitches being used. There is a craft market in the marquee on a Tuesday which was a nice surprise. Great walks along the river and there is a bus to Berwick about 4 times a day.

Ik was niet blij met As said before there is only 2 toilets and showers. At the time of writing only one toilet and shower were in use but as no one there it wasn't a problem.

Ik was blij met Warm welcome at check in - Lovely peaceful & relaxed Country walled garden site - Well spaced out neat pitches - Electric hook up included and two wet rooms which were large and clean (no stupid push buttons) - Lots of walks round the Grounds - Owl and Deer spotted - Cross Inn Pub/Restaurant only a 10min walk away in the Village (very nice meal) - Stayed a further night and will definitely return :)

Ik was blij met Very nice site, super for walking around and quite central for visiting surrounding places… very friendly staff and very nice cafe too…

Ik was blij met The Walled Garden is delightful- plenty space to pitch on...pick your own spot...
You should be a self contained van to be here as no facilities- but...there is one loo, and shower for emergency 😉...
And you can walk round the paxton house grounds and walk down by the river...

Ik was niet blij met No warden on site so felt more like an aire than a commercial site -- just slightly conscious of that as a female solo traveller.
