Tempted to head away on a break that's full of mountain views, scenic explores and plenty of scudding across lakes? Make your way to Crossfell Caravan Park, a family-friendly site 15 minutes’ drive from the Cumbrian town of Penrith – you’ll think you’re in Eden. And you will be: the site’s in the spectacular Eden Valley, five minutes from the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and 20 minutes from the Lake District National Park. Unsurprisingly, this is a fab spot for rambling wanders, horseback treks and challenging cycles – there are loads of hiking trails in the Pennines and the Lake District, and horse riding and bike hire are within 15 minutes of the site. Filling up on eats may be a priority on active hols and that's handily sorted round here: there’s breakfast catering on site for large groups (of around 12 people) and barbecues are welcome on site too. The local pub just across the road in the village of Ousby is open for dinner and drinks from Friday to Sunday evenings from 6pm, serving meals from 6pm to 8.30pm. After long days of hiking, biking and riding through hills and dales, return to base to warm up chilled bodies and ease aching muscles in the hot showers, then settle in for quiet evenings soaking up views of the Pennines and the Cumbrian countryside.

Ik was blij met: Lovely little site with big pitches, the amenities was ok, used the wash room for washing pots. The welcome was good & the pub is very local 😁 and very welcoming, I found every one to be very friendly.
The views are lovely & a good field near the bus stop for letting the dog off for a run.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Shower room a chilly & the toilets wasn’t great but putting that down to people leaving them like that!!

Ik was blij met: Sadly only here for one night, as driven over 100 miles, I needed a site ( pub food but was closed) that was quiet, & it didn’t disappoint, site level, access through gate opposite the pub, ( not behind as I travelled around static vans till someone directed me across the road) 16amp electric power supply, each bay had grass around stone bays, views could sorted by looking over the hedges ( which were blessing when a heavy storm wind came through during the night and early morning) all other amenities were on other side of road behind the pub, clean and tidy, phone signal was a bit hit and miss ( WiFi password was attached to main gate), which was plenty wide enough for all units to gain access to,

Ik was niet zo blij met: It looked like some bays were for regular use as caravan left there, only a few were for touring units sadly either the way booking services work no information about pub opening times,

Ik was blij met: The area was lovely, very picturesque.
Beautiful views! Food nice at local pub, friendly staff.
The site pitches were organised well, neat and tidy.

Ik was niet zo blij met: The showers were behind the pub where the static vans were so across the road. They were clean and usable though.

Ik was blij met: Shower and toilet facilities. Pitch tidy and well kept. Easy check in with staff to contact when arrived. Lovely pub next to site and great food and atmosphere. Beautiful views all around and relaxing.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Nice if the pub was open for breakfast but did provide eggs to collect. Didn't connect with the WiFi so not sure what it would be like.

Ik was blij met: Phoned Sid on arrival and was shown to our pitch, got the campervan all set up then took my son to a small park which is just around the corner, it was lambing season so he enjoyed seeing the lambs, we booked in for food at the fox inn which is on site basically, food was 10 out of 10 and I’d return just for the food, we will definitely be back, thank you to Sid and all your staff

This close to the Lake District, not spending any time on a lake would surely lead to a rather sinking feeling… There are lots of options nearby for boating trips, starting with Ullswater Steamers, 25 minutes’ drive away at Pooley Bridge, before puttering along to Keswick on Derwentwater 40 minutes away and the Lake Coniston gondola just under an hour and a half from base. Prefer those lake experiences to be had from dry land? The site’s less than 10 minutes from Blencarn Lake and its 15 acres of fly fishing – a lucky catch for some… When back on dry land, sweet treats await: Abbott Lodge Jersey Ice Cream is 25 minutes from base, where kids can spend time at the indoor and outdoor playgrounds while grownups tuck in to a healthy helping of homemade ice cream. Want to pencil in some more unusual outings? The Derwent Pencil Museum is 40 minutes away and (not to put too fine a point on it) comes highly recommended by the site team. If that doesn’t do it for the gang, try a visit to Trotters World of Animals, 50 minutes away, for hundreds of species – as well as bird of prey displays – or nab a ticket for a movie at the Rheged Centre (20 minutes), home of a six-storey-high cinema screen.
