If you’re something of a wildlife fan or indeed just fancy somewhere peaceful and adults-only to bed down in Cotswolds countryside, Crofts Barn, a 20-minute drive from the market town of Banbury, in Oxfordshire, may be the spot for you. Life on site is quiet enough for you to hear the birds singing and the crickets chirping – and on summer evenings, you may well hear badgers grunting in the fading light. Deer, muntjac, squirrels and rabbits often put in an appearance too. And that’s before you take the livestock into account: in neighbouring fields, you can often watch the antics of the horses and cheeky goats. Access to the pitches (which are neatly mowed areas on a ridge-and-furrow meadow) is through a digitally locked gate, so you can be sure of a high level of security. Solar lights illuminate the short walk to the toilet/shower block, so you don’t have to look for a torch in the middle of the night if you need the loo. There’s a village shop in Tysoe (five minutes’ drive), which should have pretty much everything you need on the foodie front – and there’s a pub if you fancy a crafty pint. Since guests are not permitted on site, you’ll want to meet family and friends in the local coffee shops and pubs in the area. Want to get out and about exploring the Cotswolds by car, on foot or by bike? Or are you content to sit and chill on site? At Crofts Barn, you have the chance to do either one – or a bit of both…

  • Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan (zoals de pitbullterriër, tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro). Ook de volgende rassen zijn niet welkom: de staffordshire-bulterriër, Amerikaanse staffordshireterriër, rottweiler en mastiff.
  • Het reserveren voor vrijgezellenfeesten is niet toegestaan via Pitchup.com.
  • Gasten jonger dan 18 zijn hier niet toegestaan.
  • Commerciële voertuigen (voertuigen die gebruikt worden voor werk en/of het vervoeren van goederen of betalende passagiers) en voertuigen met reclameboodschappen zijn verboden op het terrein.
  • Kortingskaarten en cadeaubonnen kunnen niet gebruikt worden bij reserveringen via Pitchup.com.
  • Voor het gebruik van de elektrische aansluitingen is een kabel van minstens 25 meter nodig.
  • Onderkomens die langer zijn dan 8 meter, zijn niet toegestaan.
  • Onderkomens die zwaarder zijn dan 3500 , zijn niet toegestaan.
  • Het wordt gasten geadviseerd om een zaklantaarn van goede kwaliteit mee te nemen, omdat delen van het terrein onverlicht zijn.
  • Houd er rekening mee dat de toiletten/douches uniseks zijn.
  • Geen houtskoolbarbecues toegestaan.
  • Geen elektrische barbecues toegestaan.
  • Er is geen receptie ter plaatse: neem bij aankomst contact op met het nummer dat in de reserveringsbevestiging vermeld staat.
  • Bij droog, winderig en/of heet weer zijn vuren, barbecues en vuurkorven niet toegestaan.
  • 10kWh of electric is included per day. Top-up cards can be purchased on site at a cost of £5 per 10kWh. Unused credits are non-refundable.

Ik was blij met: if everywhere was as nice as this a lot more people would go camping, brand new toilet and shower block, very quiet except for the lovely animals, amazing view, super friendly service, good value for money

Ik was blij met: Beautiful site, so well kept and very secure. Lovely ornamental touches throughout the grounds and a great, signposted walk through the fields and into the woods. Very friendly and welcoming host who shared lots of information on where to walk and eat locally.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Nothing! It was all perfect.

Ik was blij met: Beautiful location, peaceful and tranquil. The site is well designed and every detail has been considered. Spotlessly clean with good facilities. Easy to access and easy to tour Cotswold area from this base. Not close to Banbury in a very rural setting. Most pitches quite level and well laid out.
Owners very friendly and approachable. One of the best we have stayed at.

Ik was blij met: Beautiful, well maintained and peaceful site with excellent toilet, shower and washing facilities. Lovely views over the countryside from The View non-EHU pitches. Very friendly and welcoming host who offered lots of information on walking and places to visit. Really enjoyed visiting the Runway popup bar at Shenington Airfield (35-min walk) to enjoy drinks and food as the sun went down.

Ik was blij met: Lovely location, really quite rural setting and very well laid out site with plenty of space. If you want to get away from urban life for a day or two then this is the site for you. Plenty of places to explore nearby. Showers and toilets lovely and clean.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Nothing really to dislike - a few other reviews have mentioned the WiFi but whilst it may not be the fastest download speed at times it was absolutely fine and we streamed without any issue at all

Active types can get out on walking and cycling adventures across the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, play golf in Chipping Norton (20 minutes' drive) and Brailes (10 minutes) or explore the countryside on horseback (10 minutes). If you’d rather watch someone else do the hard work, get dressed up for horse racing at Cheltenham (an hour) and Warwick (half an hour), or book tickets well ahead of time for motor-racing at Silverstone Circuit (45 minutes). Vehicles of a more stationary kind are displayed at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes), and for more high-brow pursuits, head for Stratford-upon-Avon (25 minutes) to see where Shakespeare was born and attend one of his plays at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Warwick Castle (half an hour) has a bunch of seasonal activities as well as state rooms to explore. There’s a whole slew of National Trust properties to poke around too, from the arts and crafts-inspired plantings at Hidcote (half an hour) and Snowshill Manor and Garden (45 minutes) to the major collection of paintings at Upton House and Gardens (five minutes).
