Wonderfully spacious, peaceful and encircled by trees, Bracelands Campsite is on the edge of the Forest of Dean near Coleford in Gloucestershire. Firmly in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it’s also close to the border with Wales for family adventures across two countries. Settle in and you’ll soon be in the mood to appreciate all the natural gorgeousness that surrounds this site – look out across the fields and you’ll see you're surrounded by oak, copper beech and pine woodlands. On clear days, watch the sun set over the trees, and wake again in the morning to see light stream through them at daybreak. With all this space around, kids can play and explore their surroundings to their heart’s content. And that goes for all guests, in fact – all you need to do is walk to the edge of the site and you’re in the Forest of Dean, with all its miles of walking and cycling tracks. A few practical bits and pieces: dogs are welcome to come along on your Forest of Dean getaway (although you'll need to keep them on leads on site please), and family-friendly facilities include a laundry room, hot showers and washing-up areas. If you run out of supplies, whizz into Coleford (10 minutes’ drive), which has a couple of mid-size supermarkets, as well as a load of takeaways, pubs and restaurants.

  • Minderjarigen (18-) dienen te worden vergezeld door een ouder en/of officiële voogd.
  • Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan. Denk aan de pitbullterriër en tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro.
  • Er mogen geen reserveringen worden gemaakt voor meer dan 28 aaneengesloten nachten.
  • Kortingskaarten en cadeaubonnen kunnen niet gebruikt worden bij reserveringen via Pitchup.com.
  • Minstens één lid van het gezelschap dient 18 of ouder te zijn.
  • Onderkomens die langer zijn dan 10 meter, zijn niet toegestaan.
  • Gasten moeten hun eigen dekbedden, kussens, lakens en handdoeken meebrengen als ze in een huuraccommodatie overnachten. Neem je deze spullen niet mee, dan mag je hier niet blijven.
  • Minimumafstand van 6 meter tussen de staplaatsen.
  • Het wordt gasten geadviseerd om een zaklantaarn van goede kwaliteit mee te nemen, omdat delen van het terrein onverlicht zijn.
  • Er is geen open vuur toegestaan in de gehuurde accommodaties.

Ik was blij met: Staff were all very friendly and helpfull.
Site was a perfect location for walking,
Pizza van was great,pitches were spacious overall experiance was excelent.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Showers were good but there wasn't anywhere to put your clothes to keep them off the floor or dry other than the door hooks,could do with a curtain and seat.

Ik was blij met: Fantastic welcome from the start, all the staff we encountered were all very pleasant and helpful, even the guys who were outside working on one of the new huts smiled and said hello as you wandered past, great feel about the place. We stayed on a gravel hardstanding pitch with electric hook up, good size and plenty of space around each pitch. The water, bins and disposal points were plentiful and all very well maintained. The site is very well kept, and is in a prime location for exploring the forest and ideal for the mountain bike trails which were about 5-10 minutes away. Brilliant toilet and shower facilities, several blocks that meant even on a very busy Easter weekend you never had to wait for anything as there is so many.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Not a dislike by any means, but a stronger, more expanded Wifi signal would have been beneficial, I know you're on holiday and in a forest and you could say "just put your phone away", but lets be honest, most of us (admittedly sadly) these days rely on our phones for so much, even if it's just booking something locally. We were a little far away from the main block, and not sure where the signal boxes are located on the site but we struggled to get 1 bar - it certainly didn't dampen anything though, and a lot of sites don't even have this option, and it certainly won't put us off visiting again.

Ik was niet zo blij met: I understand the need for the rules and they are made clear at booking stage, but for us the things that would prevent us staying there again are:

No under 18yrs allowed in a tent without an adult. So you can’t put the kids in one tent and the parents in another.

Can’t have wood fires.

Can’t pitch awnings and other tents within 3 m of each other.

Some tent areas very bumpy.

Campingpod (huisdieren toegestaan)

Ik was blij met: Surrounded by woodland with walking trails. The pod was very cozy and a decent size. Toilet block clean and warm. All in all a well set up camping site.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Our pod was right next to a big half finished, dug up works of some kind with those metal poles around it with red and white tape. Obviously something temporary but it was quite an eyesore and the tape was trailing and flapping in the wind. Wasn't very idyllic and would have been nice to have been informed beforehand when we paid quite a lot for a pod.

Staff are very friendly and helpful

Ik was niet zo blij met: I originally booked this site for its location and facilities, this included bike hire.
I was very disappointed to discover that they weren't doing bike hire, despite this being advertised on their website.
Very misleading...

Routebeschrijving

The route via Symonds Yat Rock over Huntsham Bridge B4432 has a 1:5 gradient incline. It's a very narrow road, unsuitable for large RVs and motorhomes, and difficult for those towing caravans. Vehicles over seven and a half tonnes are prohibited. Instead, from the A40, take the exit for Forest of Dean and Coleford A4136 (Staunton Road). Continue for five miles, then turn left onto Grove Road. After half a mile, turn left onto Bracelands Drive. The campsite is at the end on the right.

There’s simply masses to do in the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley – from adventurous outings to cultural visits. Get the kids up and active with a visit to Go Ape Beechenhurst (15 minutes’ drive) for Segway tours and zooming down zipwires, and head for the Forest of Dean Adventure Park Bracelands Site (five minutes) for jumping around on ropes, climbing towers and practising archery. Or maybe you fancy kayaking down the River Wye from Wyedean (15 minutes)? For less strenuous days out, have an amble around the mossy woodland trails at Puzzlewood (10 minutes), or get your culture fix at National Trust-owned Westbury Court Garden (25 minutes), with delightful formal plantings around an ornamental lake. Lunchtime? Pack a picnic and eat it at Symonds Yat Rock (five minutes) while enjoying the view of the River Wye winding through its gorge. Prefer a pub? The renowned half-timbered Saracens Head Inn (15 minutes) sits on the river bank and is a great place to stop for lunch or a glass of something chilled. And to say you’ve been to Wales, hop across the border to Monmouth (20 minutes) and tour its castle and military museum.
