Treat the kids to a day at DinoPark Algar (five minutes’ walk), or head down to the Med for jet skiing and snorkelling off the sandy beaches of Benidorm. If you fancy spending the day somewhere a bit more sedate, go swimming off the pebble beaches at Altea (both half an hour’s drive) and tuck into a tapas supper in the cobbled streets of its photogenic whitewashed old town. Back at base, explore scenic mountain landscapes on horseback, while hardy souls can try canyoning or abseiling into the Algar river for a spot of wild swimming in pristine mountain waters. You can also discover the rugged foothills on two wheels – rent bikes at the campsite if you’ve left yours at home. For awesome views right down to the coast, follow the Sierra de Bernia walking route up to Fort de Bernia (two hours’ walk), built to defend the region from the Moors in the 16th century.
