What a splendidly family-friendly spot this is. Set in Maarn, West-Nederland, and surrounded by forests, heathland and sand dunes, EuroParcs De Utrechtse Heuvelrug offers pretty much everything you could look for on a kid-centric holiday. For starters, there’s a lake, a beach and heated indoor pool for everyone to splash around in – but the family fun doesn't stop there. Keep younger kids occupied at the playgrounds, or sign them up for the Beau and Bloem fun club and the fun activities organised by the campsite’s entertainment team. Older kids and parents have their fun too, with various ball games to play and bikes (e-bikes are available too to take the strain out of pedalling) to hire for exploring the trails in Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park. The ever-so-smart glamping accommodation is in spacious safari tents with sleeping for up to six; each tent has bathrooms with fragrant toiletries supplied, a really well-equipped kitchenette, dining area and a sheltered decking area at the front of the tent, ideal for lazy sunny afternoon or evening meals en famille. Catering matters are taken care of too, with a snack bar to keep everyone going during the day and a brasserie with a kid’s menu – eat alfresco on the terrace or pick up a takeaway to enjoy back on your deck. Anything else you’re needing you can pick up at the mini market – and that includes fresh bread every morning.

Cottage / chalet / bungalow Berkel 4 2 camere

Mi è piaciuto: De ligging aan de tand van het park met uitzicht op het bos. Je hoorde alleen maar vogels. Het huisje was heel practisch ingedeeld.

Non mi è piaciuto: De muren tussen de slaapkamers en wc/badkamer waren erg gehorig

Tenda safari 2 camere (animali ammessi)

Mi è piaciuto: We really enjoyed our stay at EuroParcs. There is lots to do for my 6year old and 12year old boys to keep them entertained. They loved the swimming and the bouncy trampoline the most. Our Safari Tent was lovely and clean and cosy at night.

Chances are you’ll never run out of things to do on site, but it would be a shame to miss out on a visit to Maarn (10 minutes’ drive), a Dutch village built in the 1920s for railway workers and showing off distinctive gabled architecture. Close by there’s a whole cluster of historic castles to have a nose around; medieval Castle Lunenburg (15 minutes) is open for guided tours, and at imposing Beverweerd Castle (20 minutes) there are peaceful riverside gardens to wander. Fancy some big city action? Canalside Utrecht (half an hour) has a lively cultural scene, indie shopping and cosy cellar cafés for rebooting the caffeine levels. Major draws include canal cruises and the botanical gardens, and the Spoorwegmuseum (railway) and Miffy (the cartoon rabbit) museums if you’re with the kids. Medieval Amersfoort (20 minutes) is another spot for boat trips on the canals, and you can book snake encounters at DierenPark Amersfoort zoo (15 minutes). If you’d prefer to stay local and explore on foot or two wheels, take to the forest, meadow and heathland trails of Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park straight from your tent.
