Corking vineyard getaways from Pitchup.com
Sep 15 2014 Posté par Samantha Marsh
It’s harvest season in Europe’s wine regions and that means September and October are perfect months to visit some of the best wineries of France and Spain. Outdoor accommodation specialist Pitchup.com chooses three getaways to sunny sites that will make fabulous vineyard vacations.
Luscious Loire Valley, from £6.23pppn
Wine lovers can happily ‘plonk’ themselves at Camping les Peupliers, a friendly campsite offering traditional camping holidays or comfortable stays in modern holiday homes, and use it as a base to explore the immediate area of Montlouis-sur-Loire and sample its earthy dry, demi-sec, sweet and sparkling Chenin Blanc wines. The more adventurous can venture further to Tours for red wines, Restigné where wines are aged in caves, and Sancerre/Pouilly-sur-Loire for Sauvignon Blancs.
The site itself has a restaurant/pizzeria and bar, kids’ playground, free Wi-Fi and a grocery store selling fresh local produce.
Tent pitches start at £12.45 per night for two people. Alternatively, until 25 October, guests get 10% off seven-night stays in a Super Mercure two-bedroom holiday home, which sleeps six. Prices start at £119.59 for two nights (two sharing).
Bag a bottle in Bordeaux/Aquitaine, from £5.81pppn
Guests staying at the Camping les Catalpas, in the middle of the Lot Valley, don’t have to travel far to sample some of the world’s finest wines, as the Lot-et-Garonne area - where the campsite is located - is home to 8,000 hectares of vineyards.
It’s an ideal base to experience the wine regions of the Aquitaine, which has a year-round sunny, warm climate but remains humid – perfect for producing high-quality grapes. Aquitaine’s capital, Bordeaux, is one of the most famous wine regions in the world, although most vineyards in the region produce the Cabernet Sauvignon and Semillon wines.
A two-bed lodge at Camping les Catalpas costs £162.71 for seven nights and can sleep up to four guests. The lodge features a fully-equipped bedroom and bathroom. There is a private terrace with table and chairs, offering the ideal spot to relax with a bottle or two!
Sample a Spanish sip, from £10.16pppn
In the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees, Berga Resort Camping is ideally situated for visiting the numerous wineries and cava producers on the Penedes. The Cuscó Berga winery in the picturesque village of Gunyoles d'Avinyonet, where the Cuscó y Esteve family has been producing wines since the last century, is close by. The campsite itself is one hour from Barcelona, Andorra and France and has a large playground, a games room a bar/restaurant with a large terrace serving delicious Mediterranean dishes, a pizzeria, mini market and wellness centre.
Tent pitches start at £20.32 per night for two people. Alternatively, a microlodge with a double room and a mezzanine area with a single bed suitable for a small child (up to 10 years old) costs £392.55 for seven nights.
