Begin your break with a bimble along Berrow beach, a short stroll away. The sands here stretch off into the distance for many a mile, so it’s a fab choice for a long coastal walk – all the way out to the ruins of Brean Down Fort if you’ve got a couple of hours to spare. If your seaside days aren’t complete without a promenade on the pier, head to Burnham-on-Sea (five minutes’ drive) or Weston-super-Mare (20 minutes) for traditional resort-based frolics. There are some splendid fishing spots in Burnham-on-Sea for folk who've brought their rods along; if it's golf clubs you're lugging around, there are two courses to pick from within a five-minute drive. Walkers can give their boots a workout in the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes), the Quantock Hills AONB (45 minutes) or Exmoor National Park (an hour). Cliffs and caves more your style? Head to Cheddar Gorge (half an hour) or Wookey Hole (40 minutes) for some spectacular geology. More in the mood for city visits? Bristol and Wells are both around a 45-minute drive away.
