Get set for watery views and activities galore on a stay at EuroParcs De IJssel Eilanden – this family-friendly Overijssel holiday park is right on the banks of the Reevemeer, close to where the IJssel flows into the Ketelmeer.
This splendid location means that you’ll be treated to lovely views out over the water, and you can also get in for a dip at the lake beach. This is also the place to launch your canoes, and there’s also a marina where you can berth small boats or rent one to sail around the surrounding waterways.
Bike rental is also available on site to make it easy for guests to get out onto the area’s many cycle paths; other activities on site include a playground, a panna field and a summer-holiday entertainment programme for the kids. There’s also a restaurant, a snack bar and a bread service to make sure that everyone stays well fed during their holiday (and there’s a kitchen in each cottage too so you can whip up meals easily enough).
As well as all the water-based activities you can get up to around here, there are opportunities for birdwatching and fishing around the shores of the Ketelmeer, and you’ll be close to Hanseatic towns like Zwolle and Kampen (which is 10 minutes away by car, and a good place to head for supermarkets and other shops as well).

Local attractions
If you’ve got a canoe or small boat, you’re welcome to bring it along here for days of paddling or sailing around the local waterways – if not, rent a boat on site and give it a try. The shallow waters of the Ketelmeer (10 minutes’ drive) are a real haven for bird life too, so bring your binoculars to see what you can spy.
For more chances to spot wildlife, head over to the hiking and bike trails of Weerribben-Wieden National Park (45 minutes). In spring, the tulip fields around Dronten (10 minutes) and Emmeloord (20 minutes) are the places to go for colourful views of the country’s most famous flowers. There are some splendid floral displays at De Orchideeën Hoeve (half an hour) too, along with adventure paths and jungle trails for the kids to follow.
Elsewhere nearby, you might like to entertain children with days out at Walibi Holland theme park (15 minutes) or meeting the residents of the Dolfinarium (half an hour). An appealing outing for all the family takes you to Zwolle (20 minutes) to explore the city walls and a stroll in the historic city centre.
