- Family-friendly Luxembourg campsite five minutes’ drive from Diekirch
- Müllertal Trail 15 minutes’ drive and Vianden Castle 20 minutes
- Safari tents with Sûre River views; terrace restaurant and bar on site
Good views and family-size safari tents are always a good combo – but especially so when they are at Europe Tents at Camping Gritt, sitting right on the banks of the Sûre River with a lush backdrop of wooded hills. Five minutes’ drive from historic Diekirch, the site is in Luxembourg’s spectacular Müllertal region – nicknamed ‘Little Switzerland’ for its forests, rocky ravines, streams and waterfalls.
The neatly landscaped campsite may be small-scale but there’s plenty for families, like the playground with slide, sandpit and climbing frames for toddlers and a ping-pong table for older kids to have a knock around. A cosy terrace restaurant with a short menu of homemade dishes is on tap, along with a bar serving Diekirch’s local blonde beer.
Spacious family accommodation is in safari tents that come with proper beds; each has a kitchen corner with all the utensils needed to conjure up simple meals and covered outside decking for lounging and dining on balmy evenings.
The pretty villages of Ingeldorf and Ettelbruck are both within cycling/walking distance, and anyone in need of more sightseeing inspo can drop by reception to pick up advice from expert members of staff.

Local attractions
Long-distance hikers and cyclists will be eager to get going on the Müllertal Trail from Medernach (15 minutes’ drive), and there are no less than five mountain-bike routes taking in the semi-alpine scenery around the campsite. Quiet rural roads lend themselves to cycle tours of the area, and families with novice riders can try the easy short routes to Ingeldorf (five minutes by bike) and Ettelbruck (10 minutes).
Public transport in Luxembourg is free, so if you feel the lure of an urban day out, jump aboard a bus from outside the campsite and head into Luxembourg City (about 45 minutes on the bus). Once there, you can meander the labyrinthine old town and tour the 16th-century Grand Ducal Palace, and linger on in the evening for a performance at the modernist Luxembourg Philharmonic concert hall.
Staying more local, have a potter around cute Diekirch (five minutes) while counting the town’s donkey statues (it’s the local mascot). Also nearby is ornate hilltop Vianden Castle (20 minutes), where you can stroll around the ramparts for spectacular Müllertal views and inspect vaulted apartments furnished in 14th-century style.
