  • Shaded site with bar-restaurant on the shores of Italy's Lake Garda
  • Two minutes' walk to the beach; five minutes' drive to town
  • Forty minutes' drive to Verona; an hour and 50 minutes to Venice
Grab yourself a bit of the Lake Garda experience and see why the Italians love it so much. In the province of Brescia, surrounded by woody hills, Lake Garda is a true gem. The Romans saw off invading German tribes here; centuries later, it was where Napoleon defeated the Austrians. No-one fights over Garda these days though – there's room enough for everyone to enjoy its clear blue waters and wild views. There are plentiful views of the lake from Camping Porto, a spacious, family-friendly site with groves of trees providing shade. You could (like many a wealthy Roman) just set up there and not move; there's a bar, restaurant and pizzeria on the site, plus a pool and kids' playground. The proprietors, however, are happy to help those who want to experience all the area has to offer; you can arrange bike hire, horse riding, paragliding and kayaking from the site. It's two minutes' walk to Porto beach; along the strip lake-goers can hire boats and diving expeditions, while the many beachfront bars and restaurants cater to those who prefer to sit, sip a spritzer and watch the sunset on the water. It's a 15-minute walk or five-minute drive into the town of Moniga del Garda, with plentiful shops and a go-karting centre.

From the manager: Good morning.
Your one-night stay coincided with the Latin American evening held at the campground’s bar-restaurant. Regarding the barking dogs, we did not notice them, and since your pitch was very close to our reception, we cannot determine where the dogs were. The soap and toilet paper were probably out at that moment.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch (maximum 6 metres)

Dommage

Electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked A kemping megfelelő. Az illemhelyek és a zuhanyzók tiszták. A recepción kedvesek és segítőkészek.

Disliked A hulladékkezelés nincs jól megoldva. Az összegyűlt szemetet zsákban kell a kempingen kívül található hulladék udvarba elvinni, majd ott szétválogatni. Az udvar kapuja a szűk bejáróra nyílik. Jobb lenne ha tolókapu lenne rajta.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch (maximum 6 metres)

Liked Pitch directly on the promenade by Lake Garda

Disliked Unfortunately, there were rats on the premises, so we had to keep the doors closed at all times.
The sanitary facilities are in poor condition – to be fair, we have to say that we had read about this beforehand and were therefore not surprised.
Actually, everything was fine up to that point and during the holiday.
It started when we left: we handed in our door opener at reception at 8:20 a.m. on the morning of our departure and asked them to transfer the money (20 euro deposit) to us afterwards.
Now we were told that this was not possible. And no one could remember receiving the door opener.
We had also asked four weeks in advance if we could shorten our stay by one night. This was confirmed to us! Unfortunately, it was not explicitly stated that we would not be refunded the money. We took it for granted from the response that we would be refunded for this one night. Now the campsite is refusing to do so.
So, all in all, be on your guard and clarify everything financially. It is best to have things confirmed in writing, such as the return of the door opener. Otherwise, no one will remember it later!
You should definitely steer clear of campsites like this. They are simply not reputable and underhanded!

Electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Camping Porto – Ottima esperienza!

Electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Bon camping Emplacement de bonne taille, sanitaires propres. Bien situe sur les bord du lac pas loin des restos. Camping simple, très bien pour avoir un point de chute sans avoir toutes les animations qu’on peut trouver dans d’autres campings.

Local attractions

Walkers can walk round the whole lake if they wish (and have long enough holidays). For a gentler intro, drive 15 minutes to Pieve Vecchia and explore the Rocca di Manerba. This finger of land that once hosted a temple to the Roman goddess Minerva is a walkers' wonderland of evergreen forests and orchid fields interspersed with ancient ruins and ample spots for an undisturbed dip in the lake. For boat rides, you can't beat the 15-minute trip to Isola del Garda; a little islet topped off by a fine villa that's open for visits in summer. Surrounding it, as well as traces of the holy men and foreign armies who stopped off here there's a cool wetland park of pines and oaks to wander through; perfect on long hot Garda afternoons. If you're up for something more energetic, the waterpark at Canevaworld (in Fossalta, 40 minutes) has all manner of flumes and chutes and river rides, as well as a pool for the more traditional swimming up and down. You don't have to neglect your cultural and historical sides either; Verona (50 minutes) has a Roman amphitheatre in the town centre along with art galleries, bridges and churches to sigh over and, this being the setting for Romeo and Juliet, many spots for being romantic in. The canals and palazzos of Venice are doable in a day as well (an hour and 50 minutes).
