If you like a bit of farmyard fun, you’ve come to the right place at Ferme Equestre Les Coccinelles, a rural site 10 minutes’ drive from fab Forcalquier. As you might have figured from the name, the main residents here are horses and ponies – and many are available for riding tours of the property and local area. Wherever you lie on the sliding scale from beginner to horse mad, owner Frédéric will match you up with a suitable equine partner before leading you out around the area. Once you’ve finished horsing around, sheep, lambs, donkeys and goats are also around waiting to be petted and fed, or you could wander down to the Lauzon river passing the farm’s border, to see if you can spot any aquatic wildlife and maybe have a paddle to cool down on a warm day. There’s peace and quiet in spades around here – depending on which part of the farm you choose to stay in, the main noises you’ll hear are either the trickle of the river or the chat of the farm animals. Wherever you base yourselves, you’ll not be far from the facilities of the main building, including toilets, showers and a washing machine. Free wifi is accessible around the site. Bistros aplenty are in the area for eating out; if you'd rather self cater, a supermarket and speciality grocery shops are in Forcalquier. Just remember not to eat your dins within goggling distance of the goats – they can be partial to nibbling just about anything you care to name...

Liked: Peace and quiet, and animals. Change of scene from larger capsites. Facilities are basic but all you need.
Frederic is a kind and generous host.

Disliked: Not sure the lots of spare old caravans.

Disliked: Would not call this a campingsite, really not good facilities and very dirty. The place looks like a garbage. The owner didn't give us the change back when we paid for the rest of our stay. Wifi is not existing as it said in the information.

Liked: Everything was wonderful. Fantastic friendly hosts. Beautiful simple, rural farm setting. River with swimming. Horses, donkeys and friendly dog. If you like a quiet, tranquil, unbusy, non-commercial place to camp, this is just perfect. We were taken around the farm and to the small waterfall in the river where we swam.
Facilities fine. We loved it.

The toilets, given the proximity of the river, cannot be near the quietest camping pitches. Pitches exist closer to the sanitary facilities, along the path leading to the Farm.
Very happy that you could hear the song of birds in addition to that of frogs (predators of mosquito larvae).
The pitches are indeed quiet in a meadow with animals nearby.
The river, excluding drought, offers a pleasant waterfall and a small, almost private bathing place.

Les sanitaires compte tenu de la proximité de la rivière ne peuvent être à proximité des emplacements camping les plus calmes. Des emplacements existent plus près des sanitaires, le long du chemin qui mène à la Ferme.
Très heureux que vous ayez pu entendre le chant des oiseaux en plus de celui des grenouilles ( prédateurs des larves de moustiques).
Les emplacements sont effectivement au calme dans une prairie avec les animaux à proximité.
La rivière, hors sécheresse, offre une cascade agréable et un petit lieu de baignade quasi privatif.
Au plaisir de vous accueillir de nouveau.

Liked: Traditional camp site. Basic and clean. Good local recommendations.
Horses and donkeys nearby. Peace and tranquility.

Disliked: The toilets were a considerable distance from the tent pitches.
No Wi-Fi in tent area.

Local attractions

Fab Forcalquier a 10-minute drive is packed with old buildings to visit, including a 13th-century convent and a 12th-century cathedral. Take a walk too into the surrounding countryside to wander among the lavender fields and the mushroom-shaped rock formations of the mourres: pics essential. From the hilltop setting of Lurs, also a 10-minute drive away, potter out of the village along the Promenade des Eveques, to reach a small chapel among spectacular views of poppies, lavender and olive trees to the mountains beyond. Getting active, get out onto the Durance river via a kayak trip from Villeneuve, again 10 minutes from the farm. If you prefer to look down on your surroundings, take to the skies for an aerial view by joining a hot air balloon flight from Forcalquier: pics highly essential here too.
