Any closer to the beach and you’d actually be in the sea at the aptly named Camping de la Plage, 10 minutes’ drive from Aregno in La Balagne, north-west Corsica. This peaceful site opened in 1972 and sits in a six-hectare garden edging the sandy beach, providing a peaceful base for seaside holidays with friends and family.
Accommodation is in mobile homes, which are non-smoking and come equipped with all necessaries: a kitchen, open-plan living area, ensuite with shower and bedrooms with a variety of double, single and bunk beds. Everything you need for comfortable downtime is there too, including a wifi connection, TV, reversible air conditioning and a shaded terrace for alfresco eating.
Daily life on site revolves around the waterpark, with slides, swimming pool and paddling pools for the kids, plus a splash pad with water jets where you can cool off on hot sunny days. There’s also a playground for the youngest guests.
The restaurant offers family-friendly fast food all day long, and is cleverly sited so parents enjoying a beer on the terrace can keep an eye on their offspring in both the pool and play park. The beach bar is just the spot for sipping cocktails at sunset, and during high season, musical entertainment accompanies your evening meals.

Local attractions
Start your exploration of this verdant corner of Corsica in Aregno (10 minutes’ drive), where whitewashed houses with pink slate roofs are overlooked by a baroque-era church and surrounded by lush citrus orchards and almond groves. Other gorgeous villages worth visiting include Pigna (15 minutes), which fell into disrepair and was completely rebuilt in the 1960s, and Corbara (10 minutes), with its wealth of ornate churches and chapels.
Back down on the coast, Algajola (five minutes) has a sandy beach dominated by an imposing fortress; there are several viewpoints where you can watch the sun sink down into the Med on clear days. Just north are several pebbled coves like Marine de Davia and Cala di Furnellu (both 10 minutes) with pristine water for snorkelling.
If you fancy time immersed in history and culture, head for Calvi (20 minutes), where you can wander the 15th-century citadel, visit Cathédrale St-Jean-Baptiste and hike up to the chapel of Notre Dame de la Serra for amazing sea views. Prefer a lazy day? Grab a lounger and snooze in the sun at one of Calvi’s seafront lidos.
