- Peaceful rural Corsica site 10 minutes' drive from Olivese
- Hiking trails, waterfalls, river beach and Bronze Age site close by
- Simple site with easy access from the D26 road; dogs welcome
Time for some chillout time in the fresh air? Head into the hills for some time spent at Paesi Di San Martinu, a simple site surrounded by the cool calm of the the Corsica countryside.
This is a thoroughly rural site with a proper peaceful vibe and lots of hiking trails and wild swimming spots close by (a little beach on the nearby Taravo river is a local favourite), and activity centres dotted around the area offering more high-octane outings such as rafting and canyoning.
Despite its remote atmosphere, this site is actually very easy to get to, as it’s just off the D26 main road. A grocery store, pizzeria and restaurant are close by in the village of Olivese (10 minutes' drive), and you’ll be allowed to light up a campfire back on site for cooking and keeping warm.
You could easily use this place as a base for some time spent exploring southern Corsica, as the area is dotted with beaches, historic sites and natural features like waterfalls. That said, you could (and should) also allocate at least part of your break to the simple pleasure of just relaxing and taking in the rural scenery on site.
Everything here has been kept nice and simple (facilities just stretch to the essentials like toilets and rubbish bins) so you’ll be able to make the most of the countryside peace, scenery and stargazing. You’re welcome to bring your dog too, as long as they're kept on leads and supervised.

Local attractions
Much of the joy of a stay somewhere like this is in discovering quiet trails and perhaps finding places to go for a swim. You can walk to a Bronze-Age ‘torra’ in about 50 minutes from the site, wander around waterfalls (the closest being 15 minutes' drive) or just head down to the river (15 minutes' walk) for a dip in the cool water.
If you fancy something a bit more hardcore, there are challenging climbs to be had around Plateau du Coscione and Col de Bavella (both around an hour's drive), and several places where you can have a go at canyoning. On a more gentle note, you can also stop in at L’Usu Corsu to take a tour of their pig farm and learn about the traditional art of charcuterie (with the odd tasting, of course).
A day trip to the coast is doable from here, too – perhaps wandering around the town of Propriano or hitting the sands of Plage de Porticcio (both 50 minutes). Alternatively, a drive of a little under an hour gets you to Ajaccio, to wander around the old port and visit Napoleon-themed attractions.
