- Quiet Lower Normandy tourer pitches five minutes’ drive from Barenton
- Musée du Poiré 10 minutes’ drive, and Mont Saint-Michel 55 minutes
- Simple dog-friendly site on a former farm; shops five minutes’ drive
Simple pitches, fabulous peace and lovely countryside views are what you get at Oak Farm, five minutes’ drive from Barenton in Lower Normandy. This characterful property was a working dairy farm until 2019, and since then it has morphed into a laidback touring site with a handful of motorhome pitches.
Book in here and you'll be staying in a spacious and flat field sheltered from the elements by the mature oaks that gave the land its name. Access is easy along a level driveway from the road, and you can stock up on essentials from the supermarket in Barenton before you arrive. Simple facilities on site include toilets, showers and a washing-up area.
This location is in the western part of the Normandy-Maine Regional Natural Park, so it makes a great base for walks (with your dog if you’d like to bring them) – perhaps through the surrounding farmland and woods or up to the tumbling waterfalls at Le Grand Cascade and La petite cascade (both 10 minutes’ drive). You may also like to try a drop of pear brandy in the local hostelries or venture further afield to the UNESCO-listed Mont Saint-Michel (55 minutes).
Being a little over an hour’s drive from several ferry ports, this site also makes a handy stopover point for those heading to or from a Channel crossing. Medieval Domfront, home to a castle, cobbled streets and timber-framed houses, is 15 minutes' drive away from base.
