  • Well-located and peaceful site on a Glamorgan family farm
  • A 20-minute drive to several beaches; Afan Forest Park half an hour
  • A mile from the M4; walk to Margam Country Park in 20 minutes
Want an easy rural escape in the Welsh countryside, without having to navigate lots of little country lanes? Check out Wild Heather Glamping, a handy site on a farm in the Glamorgan countryside – it’s a mere mile from the M4 for excellently easy journeys, and roughly 10 minutes' drive east from Port Talbot. Despite that fabulously simple access, once you’re here you’ll have a proper countryside experience, with views of nothing but the Cwmbach valley, a place full of trees, green grass and grazing sheep – just the thing for a chilled-out break. Outings can be similarly laidback too, as you’ll be able to walk from the site to Margam Country Park in about 20 minutes to visit the castle, the old abbey and the Iron Age hillfort as well as taking walks or bike rides and perhaps tackling the Go Ape course. This is also a handy location for all sorts of other active days out, from scrambling in the dunes at Merthyr Mawr to zipping along the downhill bike trails at Afan Forest Park to hitting the surf waves at Rest Bay. For a gentler pace, there are outlet shops and a cinema 15 minutes’ drive away, or you could stick around on site for some alfresco time, perhaps lighting up a barbecue or campfire for that full outdoor experience.
