What customers say

A chill and vibey campsite, with lekker spacious spots and a beaut rural setting. Guests rave about the tops facilities, like outdoor showers and a well-kitted-out barn for games and cooking. Hosts are super welcoming and helpful. Minor gripes: pitches can be a bit sloped, a bit of animal noise now and then, and the loos are basic, but mostly everyone's chuffed. Perfect for a chilled escape.

Electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked The site is beautiful and the facilities are really good. You get a huge pitch, so there's lots of room to park and spread out your tent and belongings, and you can't hear the people in the next pitch vividly as you can on some other sites. They have some nice games to play like ping pong and darts, and the toilets and showers are kept clean and well stocked. I really can't think of anything bad to say about the site.

The people who run the place are lovely. My 5 year old son likes looking for insects, and the owner came out with a spade one day and helped us look under some old logs and stuff. I've not had this kind of service anywhere before. Also, the checkout is 2pm, so there is no rushing around. I've been camping many times, and this is the best run site I've visited.

Electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked We absolutely loved our stay at Moss Lane Cottage Campsite! It is a true gem.

The hosts were incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The pitches are well-maintained and spacious, with plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The facilities were spotless and clearly well cared for.

What really sets this campsite apart is the stunning atmosphere. It's a true haven of tranquility, surrounded by beautiful views. We spent our time enjoying the local area, including a refreshing swim at a nearby mere.

If you're looking for a quiet, friendly, and beautifully located campsite, Moss Lane Cottage is the perfect choice. We can't wait to come back!

Electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked Small campsite with a lovely little covered community area. Was great for the kids as they could play and run around and we could always have an eye on them. Loved the lake nearby and the local pub. Bathroom and outdoor toilet + shower very clean.

Disliked The gorgeous peacocks that hat a shouting match with the cockerel at 4 am.

From the manager: Thank you for your glowing review, very much appreciated.
We are disappointed with the questions posed by Pitchup in the review- in that we do not have WiFi and this is shown in the facilities available page of our listing!
As a consequence the overall review figure is reduced to 9/10.
I will ask Pitchup.to remove that question.
Hope we see you again.

Electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked Great campsite, would highly recommend. Great communication from the host before arrival and they couldn't do enough for us whilst there. The facilities were well kept and stocked with toilet roll, soap etc. There is a communal fridge and a great games area with darts etc. We had a great stay and weren't rushed off on our last day. The pitches were well spaced out. We will definitely return. Thank you.

Disliked Nothing!

Electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked We stayed with electric in 1 of 2 fields on site, on this field all pitches had names and you could choose where you pitched. Owners were so lovely and helpful, couldn’t do enough.
Communal area near bathrooms had games, fridges, a kettle and toaster for people to use.
Jam and eggs for sale.
Very quiet area, quirky campsite
Would definitely come again

Local attractions

The water's not too cold apparently, but it's still best if you can pick a warm summer’s day for a swim in Hanmer Mere (15 minutes’ walk) so that you can have a bit of a laze on the small sandy beach after all your exertions. Other local wild-swimming spots include Whitemere (10 minutes’ drive) and Ellesmere (15 minutes). No need to swim if it’s just not your thing; both these lakes also have scenic walks bordering the water, and at Ellesmere you can keep a look out for sculpture hidden in the trees. Alderford Lake (15 minutes) is another lush spot with a water park, a safe alternative to wild swimming for kids, and a shop and café. Water features large hereabouts. There’s more hiking at Whixall Moss (20 minutes), with many paths through peaty marshland. The Llangollen Canal is carried across the River Dee at the majestic Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (half an hour), a lovely spot for canal-side walks and awesome views. You can also potter down the canal by horse-drawn barge, or hire day boats from Whittington Wharf (20 minutes). For more adventurous days out, the River Dee provides challenging canoeing at Llangollen (35 minutes), and if that’s still too tame for you, try white-water rafting at the National White Water Centre near Bala (an hour).
