Portmeirion folly village

  • Gwynedd touring site in the grounds of Portmeirion village
  • A 20-minute drive from Harlech beach; Zip World Llechwedd 25 minutes
  • Hardstanding pitches with electric hook-ups and drinking water
Now here’s a rare chance to see Gwynedd’s Italianate folly of Portmeirion out of hours and without the crowds. At Portmeirion Motorhome Park, the pitch price includes entry into the village itself – and as an added bonus, you also get complimentary use of the heated outdoor swimming pool. For those who aren’t yet familiar with the pretty Portmeirion village, the buildings are Italianate in style, although the village is on the north coast of Wales and sits right on the edge of Eryri National Park (formerly Snowdonia). While you’re there, make the most of the village’s attractions: go shopping for patterned Portmeirion pottery, or choose between fine-dining restaurants and cafés selling regional produce to stave off any hunger pangs. If you’re in the mood for some R&R, your best bet is to book a rejuvenating treatment at the village’s luxury spa. But back to those touring pitches. The motorhome park is sheltered by trees and planted with colourful hydrangeas, so it's a peaceful and pretty place. The hardstanding pitches are all serviced with drinking water and an electric hook-up and can cater for all sizes of motorhomes and campervans. A clean shower block is also on hand and includes accessible amenities.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch (large)

Liked Staff were very friendly. Toilets and showers were very clean. Easy access to the village.

Disliked Showers could have been slightly bigger with a bench to put your clothes on rather than just 2 hooks.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch (large)

Liked Almost everything . The huge Motorhome pitch with water, wooden picnic bench and hook up.
The village and at night when it was all lit up and can wander around without all the crowds. The fact that entry is included on the day and the following day when your motorhome can be moved to the general car park after checkout time. So it makes the high site price reasonable. The secret entrance guests have from the motorhome park to the village .
The Motorhome service area with drive over for grey waste.
The free ride for guests up and down the hills. Use of swimming pool - ask at hotel reception for towels.
The amazingly planted woods and paths. I never wanted to leave. The beaches . The super soft rolls for sale at the Jam pot. Such friendly staff, especially the lady at check in .
Free Wi-Fi.

Disliked Not much really. The hills. The shower cubicles- great shower but no bench or fold down stool to aid balance and dry feet. Water goes all over floor. Disliked not being able to afford to dine at the hotel and seeing how the other half live through the windows.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch (small)

Liked Very clean showers and Receptionist very helpful when I explained my husband was disabled.

Disliked Really not for our needs - my husband is now disabled and did not fit for us. We will not be taking any more camper van breaks unfortunately. We only stopped one night instead of three because too difficult now, not the Motorhome's fault. Not many places to eat on the evening - only Hotel. So that was a problem for us too.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch (large)

Liked We booked a large pitch, it was great, the warden was very welcoming gave lots of information and leaflets. The toilets and shower facilities were cleaned regularly throughout the day. Added bonus is that the fee you payed gives you access to the heated outdoor swimming pool that belongs to the Portmerion hotel. We were also advised that if you leave the motorhome park on day of departure and park in the main car park we would have access to Portmerion village the next day. We have a 7.3 motorhome

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch (small)

Liked We loved the whole idea of the site, access to Portmeirion, including swimming pool, and good pitches. Water and electricity on pitch, picnic bench. Priced according to size of campervan. We stayed for two nights, just to 'do' Portmeirion, so didn't drive in and out, but security looked good. Access to village good and great walking in the wider grounds.

Disliked The facilities were good and built to a high standard, but maybe installed after advice from a hotelier rather than a campsite expert? The cleaning was great, and the cleaners incredible, but very hard to clean as not designed for campers. The washing up sinks would be perfect in a hotel kitchen.

Local attractions

If you’re keen for a game of golf while on holiday, you'll be pleased to hear that Portmeirion Motorhome Park is just 20 minutes’ drive away from a golf course overlooking the sea. Rather conveniently, the course is next to Harlech beach, a windswept bay with dunes and mountain views, as well as Harlech Castle, a grand building with turrets and a suspended wooden footbridge. This whole area is pretty well endowed with historic sites, from the ruined 13th-century Criccieth Castle (20 minutes' drive) above Tremadog Bay to the Ffestiniog Railway (25 minutes), which runs heritage train trips through Eryri to see the mountainscapes in old-fashioned style. Llechwedd Slate Mines and Zip World Llechwedd (25 minutes) are other fine spots to add to your plans – venture into the Victorian slate mines or brave the speedy Titan zipwire for a proper burst of adrenaline. For a more sedate outing, head to Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn Wildlife (15 minutes). It's open during high season only, but you’re in with the chance of spotting ospreys – for wildlife fans that's surely something to boast about.
