  • Welcoming wild camping site in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park
  • Two miles to a trail up Pen y Fan; Four Waterfalls a half-hour drive
  • Meadow pitches with on-site walks; home-cooked meals on Friday night
Ca’s Camping is in pole position for anyone keen to get out and about in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (formerly the Brecon Beacons). Situated on the edge of the mountains, with glorious views right from your tent, this is wild camping in a peaceful, flat meadow on an organic farm with dairy cows, free-range hens and ponies. The dogs get to come on your Welsh adventure too (on leads please), and you can exercise them in the designated 2.5-acre meadow adjoining the camping field, which has a stream running through the middle for family splashings around. A 10-minute walk in woodland takes you to waterfalls on a tributary of the Tarrell River. Pick up barbecue supplies from handy supermarkets in Brecon (10 minutes’ drive, check out the historic cathedral too), where there are also masses of pubs, fish and chip shops and takeaways for those nights when no-one wants to cook. If you’re staying on a Friday night, eat on site at Ca’s Citchen, when the owner cooks a tasty farmhouse supper (with dessert) made from locally sourced produce. Eat outside under the pergola or take your food back to your pitch. On Saturday evenings, weather permitting, guests can also join Ca for a food experience in the woodland near waterfalls. Simple site facilities include a toilet and shower block (installed for the 2025 season), a washing-up area and rubbish recycling points. An added bonus is the standpipes providing drinking water straight from a spring in the mountains.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Amazing location in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons. Friendly staff, fire pits to hire, food cooked in the onsite kitchen by the owner Friday and Saturday (didn't try but smelled good). Short 2 minute drive to Brecon town with lots of amenities. 15 mins to Pen y Fan which is an amazing family friendly hike with amazing views. Definitely going back here.

Disliked Facilities are basic (no electric hook ups), limited showers and covered wash up area. With only two showers for the whole site it was quite tricky getting a shower. Obviously with the limited sized facilities, footfall meant they got messy quickly.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We loved the location, it was minutes drive to the mountains or the town of Brecon. A great location for walking, hiking, swimming in rivers, waterfalls and lakes, mountain biking and running, but also for art galleries, coffee and cake etc.

The facilities were cleaned daily, there was always plenty of loo roll, and hot water on demand.

Plenty of flat space to pitch the tent and for the kids to play.

Lovely walks from the campsite too, meaning we didn't need to use the car every day.

Disliked Unfortunately, there is only 2 toilets and 1 shower per male and female area, which for a campsite of this size, isn't really enough. We regularly had to wait for toilets and showers even though the site was very quiet.

Other campers very quickly made the toilets and showers filthy, although this isn't tje site owners fault and I'm sure it isn't like this all the time. Just depends who is staying and how respectful they are.

Ca's Citchen, although a lovely idea, just seems like a massive waste of space and facilities - especially for the price of the site.

Nowhere to charge any electronic devices.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We had a great time staying at Cas Camping in Brecon. The site was clean and tidy, with well-maintained grounds and a very relaxed atmosphere. We appreciated the flexibility of just turning up and pitching — the owner later came around to check us off the list, which added to the laid-back vibe.

The toilet and shower facilities were basic but totally fine for a campsite — always stocked with toilet roll, and the showers were warm and clean. There was a bit of a smell from the toilets in the evening when they were being flushed, but it wasn’t a major issue and didn’t affect our stay.

The location is excellent — just a short distance from town, beautiful woodland walks, and stunning waterfalls. One of the highlights was the incredible view overlooking the mountains, especially at sunset. We also loved being able to order firewood (£5 per bag, which lasted more than enough for two nights) — a perfect touch for a cosy evening by the fire.

We’ll definitely be visiting again. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful, scenic escape with all the basics covered.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Fantastic views.
Nice owners running the site and a really good meal cooked for campers if you wanted to purchase one, we did and it was of restaurant quality.
There was a mixture of different people staying on the site and everyone had plenty of room to do their own thing.
Would be happy to stay on this site again.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Loved the location. No fuss attitude.

Disliked The building work started a touch early but wont be forever.
There aren't many facilities and by the morning were in need of a good clean. It wasnt super busy so would worry how they would get over the weekend.
A bit more info would have been good but really I liked that it was pretty basic.

Local attractions

The site is actually in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, so lots of hiking and cycling will probably be on the cards. You can start on the trail up Pen y Fan (two miles’ walk from site) for spectacular views over mountain ridges to the horizon. Another classic local yomp leads up to the Four Waterfalls (half an hour’s drive); get more outdoor inspiration from the National Park Visitor Centre (15 minutes). When something less hardcore is required, pedal or stroll along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal (10 minutes); otherwise there’s a golf course within five minutes’ drive and an indoor pool at Brecon Leisure Centre (10 minutes) – a handy diversion for any rainy days. Younger kids will doubtless love meeting all the cuddly animals at Cantref Adventure Farm, while teens can hone their off-roading skills at BattleMX (both 15 minutes). The National Showcaves Centre for Wales (25 minutes) is another great option for family days out, with its subterranean tours, dinosaur walks and recreated Iron Age village.
